Ryan Coogler Hopes To Make A ‘Women Of Wakanda’ Film Soon

Published

on

Black Panther became a worldwide phenomenon when it hit theaters earlier this year. Some of the most talked about characters weren’t even the title character and his enemy Killmonger. The ladies stole the show, which led to a possible future film idea.

Wakanda Forever

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is on board with a film about the women of Wakanda. “We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie. Some of them have before. We were so fortunate. I would watch a movie with them,” Coogler said during a Cannes Film Festival discussion.

Actress Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, is ready for this new film. “Ready big bro,” she tweeted.

Taking On The World

Marvel recently announced a three-part comic miniseries featuring Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka (a.k.a. The Dora Miljae). The three ladies will travel the world to team up with Spider-Man, the X-Men, and The Avengers. “As millions of moviegoers now know (and as comic readers already knew!), the Dora Milaje are the absolute coolest,” series editor Wil Moss stated in a press release.

Last year, the ladies of Wakanda had their very first spinoff with Black Panther: World of Wakanda. The series was unfortunately canceled days after the Black Panther trailer debuted.

A New Hero?

One storyline for this film could involve Shuri donning the Black Panther suit. In the comics, she becomes Black Panther after T’Challa was left in a coma by Doctor Doom. Chadwick Boseman originally signed up for five Marvel movies. With Avengers 4 being his fourth film, he could pass the torch in the Black Panther sequel.

Black Panther has been nominated for numerous awards, including Movie of the Year at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. The movie is out on DVD and digital download right now.
