The Real Reason Why Will And Kate Broke Up In 2007

Published

on

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrated for their deeply committed relationship that has welcomed three adoring children. However, the road to their glamorous royal wedding wasn’t easy, including a notorious one-year breakup. But, love conquered all. Find out how they reconciled their differences and found true love.

Traditional College Sweethearts

When Kate Middleton enrolled at St. Andrews University, she probably didn’t expect she would meet her future husband, let alone seal her fate as a future member of the royal family. But that’s exactly what happened. Middleton caught the prince’s eye, they became friends, and when she appeared in a charity fashion show — wearing a sheer dress and black panties — the rest was history.

A Fast Romance

It wasn’t long after Middleton’s charity fashion show when William made their budding relationship official in 2003. The two began a fast romance, falling in love and soon realizing this wasn’t a simple fling. They were joyfully dating for four years before things took an unexpected turn in 2006.

Home For The Holidays

Middleton’s family invited William to celebrate the winter holidays and ring in 2007 with them in Scotland. He had originally planned to attend but ultimately decided against it because, at that time, non-royals weren’t allowed to celebrate holidays with the royal family, including William. This wasn’t happy news for Middleton.

“Waity Katie” And The Pressure To Wed

Due to William’s busy military schedule, free time was scarce, and the couple spent more time apart. Paparazzi surrounded Middleton, often following Kate to her vehicle and questioning why the couple wasn’t engaged yet. Middleton soon received the nickname “Waity Katie” and William received his own pressure from his father, Prince Charles.

Instead of proposing, however, the couple decided to break up on April 3, 2007.

Reconciling Their Differences

They say soulmates can’t stay apart, and that’s true for the royal couple. A year later, in April 2008, the couple reconciled at William’s St. Andrews graduation, and he went on to invite her to his cousin’s wedding to officially meet Queen Elizabeth II. They committed to their relationship and married three years later on April 29, 2011.
