Will Disney’s New Streaming Service Disney+ Beat Netflix?

Published

on

If you love Disney movies, your life is about to get a little brighter with Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. When Disney made the first announcement in 2018, we didn’t know what to expect. Since then, Disney has revealed more information about the service. Step aside, Netflix. There’s a new streaming service in town.

All The Info

Disney+ will contain Disney’s entire motion picture library. If you haven’t watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Cinderella since your childhood, you can now re-watch them and so many more. The service will even include movies that have traditionally been kept in its archives, otherwise known as “the vault.”

What’s “the vault”? You have probably heard “the vault” referenced in several Disney advertisements. Commercials would announce, “Buy Beauty and the Beast now before it goes into the vault.” It sounds scary. Our favorite Disney movies could disappear forever? Disney occasionally stops printing new copies of certain films, putting them into “the vault” to focus on other projects. We wouldn’t want the movies to disappear forever, but don’t worry. The movies aren’t in “the vault” forever.

Instead, Disney eventually re-opens “the vault” to release a new version of a Disney classic to increase sales. For example, The Little Mermaid re-emerged from “the vault” in 2019 with a “Signature Edition” after staying “under the sea” for six years. So, when you hear an advertisement that your favorite Disney movie is going into “the vault,” you don’t have to worry. Your beloved Disney princess isn’t gone forever. The movie will be back in a few years.

But with Disney+, you won’t have to worry about “the vault” at all. You’ll have access to every Disney movie, including the classics. Disney is saying “be our guest” with hundreds of films to watch on what could become the best streaming service ever made. So, what’s the advantage? What’s involved in the service?

More For Your Dollar

The best advantage is that Disney revealed Disney+ not only will be cheaper than Netflix, but considerably less than its rivals, including Amazon Prime and others. Just $6.99 a month, you’ll have access to not only movies but also any programs associated with Fox, including every episode of The Simpsons.

Would you spend $6.99, or $70 for an annual subscription, to watch your favorite Disney movies whenever you want? Instead of binge-watching your favorite Netflix shows, you could start binge-watching Disney movies. That sounds like a good idea to us!

Competing Against Netflix

With its low price, it seems Disney+ is trying to compete against other streaming services, including Netflix and Amazon Prime. Streaming services have become more popular in recent years as a way for customers to have access to their favorite shows and movies at the click of a button. Television shows, movies, and music (on Spotify) are at our fingertips, so it’s not surprising Disney wanted to jump on the bandwagon.

But there’s one thing that makes Disney+ better than its competitors: it has everything. Netflix and Amazon Prime don’t contain every movie or television show. This can be disappointing to some customers who might be in the mood to watch a particular movie, but they can’t.

With Disney+, customers won’t ever have to worry about that frustrating problem. The streaming service contains every Disney movie ever produced. It also plans to include new original television series, including the first-ever live-action Star Wars show, The Mandalorian.

The planned release date in the United States is November 12, 2019. You can stream content on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and any additional streaming system. Get ready to watch Disney movies whenever you want. We can’t imagine anything better than that.
