Why Don’t We See Regis Philbin Around Anymore?

Regis Philbin

Since 1961, iconic host Regis Philbin has been welcomed in numerous homes around the world. His hard work earned him a Guinness World Record for most time spent in front of a camera. In recent years, his presence has been dwindling. Fortunately, there are some legitimate reasons for this change.

Listen To Your Heart

During his career, Philbin has dealt with various health issues. His biggest one involves heart disease, which he discovered 30 years ago. In 2007, Philbin underwent triple bypass surgery to alleviate the situation. He recently joined forces with the American Academy of Family Physicians to promote a healthy heart. “Before my heart health scare, I wasn’t very disciplined when it came to my diet. Now, I still enjoy the foods I’ve always loved but in moderation. I mostly stick to chicken and vegetables for weekly dinners and work out at a gym a few days a week to help my strength and muscle tone,” he told Parade.

A Familiar Face

Since leaving Live!, Philbin has made guest appearances on other talk shows. In 2012, he started having a recurring guest spot on The Rachael Ray Show. When it came to nabbing the role, he loved the infrequent time on camera. “I’m not a co-host, I’m just a guy showing up on her show once a month. I love the idea. It’s fun to be back on TV when you don’t have to do it every day,” he told USA Today. As of 2019, he still appears on the show in a limited capacity.

Putting Family First

Following decades of being on air constantly, Philbin enjoys the time away from the set. More importantly, he loves being closer to his family. “I had a great run with “Live” and was fortunate to retire on a high note with a lot of support from the show and from fans. While there are days I do miss working, it’s been a nice change of pace to focus more on relaxing and spending time with my wife Joy and our kids and grandkids,” he told AOL.
