Who Dat Boy? 5 Amazing Facts About Tyler, The Creator

on

Since the release of 2011’s Goblin, Odd Future leader Tyler, The Creator has been one of rap’s most unorthodox artists. While millions around the world stream his music, not many of them know his backstory. Fortunately, we’re here with some intriguing facts about this Gold-selling artist.

Getting A Paycheck

Before making it big, Tyler had several small jobs. One of his most terrifying ones was at FedEx. “It was just, the spirit there, just older dudes just pushing boxes but okay with it, and it scared the living hell out of me, so I quit after a week and four days,” he told Jimmy Kimmel.

Hole In One

In 2011, Tyler unveiled his clothing line Golf Wang, which is a spoonerism of Wolf Gang. The rapper has admitted to not actually being a fan of golf. “I mean, that’s my least favorite sport, to be honest. I don’t know, the word just looks sick,” he told Billboard.

Discovering New Talent

Soundcloud has been a major hotspot for rising artists to showcase their work. Tyler will often search through the website daily in order to find potential collaborators. Rex Orange County and Anna of the North were both picked by Tyler to be on his Flower Boy album. When Tyler performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he made sure to bring Anna of the North with him.

Five Year Ban

The rapper’s lyrics got him in severe trouble with the U.K. Former Home Security Theresa May banned the rapper from entering the country back in 2015. Currently, Tyler is not allowed to perform in the area until 2020 when the ban is lifted. This isn’t his first time being banned from a country. In the past, he was banned from performing in Australia and New Zealand

A Decade On YouTube

Tyler first made his online presence felt through vlogs back in 2008. His YouTube channel bloxhead includes random videos of him hanging out with the rest of Odd Future. So far, his channel has only earned his 2 million views. In comparison, his music video for “Yonkers” has gained 108 million views.
