One earned Oscar gold for portraying music icon Ray Charles. The other gained global fame playing young writer Joey Potter. Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes have been one of Hollywood’s most quiet couples for years. So what’s up with the pair today?
In The Year 2000
While people believe they met years ago, their friendship goes back to the year 2000. The two presented the award for Breakthrough Female at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards. At that point, both actors’ careers were on fire, and The WB was their connection. Foxx was gaining fans with his hit sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show. Holmes was earning Teen Choice Awards nominations for her work on Dawson’s Creek. Years later, Holmes began dating Tom Cruise, who was Foxx’s co-star in Collateral.
One Little Dance
In 2012, Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise after five years of marriage. During this time, she remained good friends with Foxx. The following year, dating rumors swirled after Foxx and Holmes were seen dancing at a charity event. Foxx denied anything and blamed it on social media. “You know how social media is now, they try to make a mountain out of a molehill. That’s our world we live in, you try not to Kanye it. I talk to [Kanye], you can’t knock all of them out. You just keep moving,” Foxx told ABC News.
By 2015, the two were caught holding hands in public. “They wanted to get to know each other and see where things were headed so it could develop in private before they went public, but it’s very serious,” an unnamed source told US Weekly.
Cover Almost Blown
While they were seen together more in public, they weren’t ready to reveal their relationship. That didn’t stop Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan from accidentally exposing their secret. When asked about them on the Allegedly podcast, Jordan stated, “He is very happy with her. I like that he seems very happy.” 24 hours after this reveal, Jordan backpedaled on her statement to protect Foxx and Holmes. “I have no knowledge of Jamie with Katie at all. I’ve never seen them together. He’s never told me he’s dating her. I don’t have the knowledge of this being fact. I don’t. I misspoke,” Jordan told Entertainment Tonight.
Work, Work, Work
Like many celebrity couples, Foxx and Holmes have spent more time apart due to commitments. “They never had a typical relationship,” an unnamed source told Entertainment Tonight, “They have always been incredibly independent and their lives didn’t revolve around each other. They lived separately and in different cities and saw each other occasionally. They are just both caught up with their own families, careers and obligations that their relationship had to take a back seat.”
Foxx is working on the hit Fox series Beat Shazam, and he’ll soon be filming the Spawn reboot. The actor has also been working with new singer Sela Vave. “When I meet her, next thing you know, I come out she’s sitting on my stairs with an acoustic guitar singing a broke down version of Beyoncé. She wasn’t trying to be Fantasia [Barrino] or Whitney Houston. You know how hard it is to play the guitar and be quiet?,” Foxx said in an interview with LA’s Power 106 FM.
Holmes is working on the films Coda and The Secret. On December 6, 2019, she’ll appear in the horror film Brahms: The Boy II. The film follows a young family oblivious to the horrors that lie inside Heelshire Mansion. This is the sequel to 2016’s The Boy, which starred The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan.
While breakup rumors are floating around, the couple will be doing what they do best: entertaining audiences worldwide.
