Viola Davis To Reprise Amanda Waller Role For ‘The Suicide Squad’

Published

Viola Davis made supervillains all over shake as Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. With the forthcoming reboot in the works, many are wondering if she’ll reprise her beloved role. Fortunately, Davis will be back and better than ever for another round.

I Am Your Consequence

While it hasn’t been confirmed by the studio, Davis will star in The Suicide Squad. Fans of the first film are completely relieved she’ll make her return. “Hearing that @violadavis is still on board with @JamesGunn for The Suicide Squad is the best news I have heard all day. She is a phenomenal actress and embodies Amanda Waller perfectly,” Twitter user CammiHutton said.

Hard As Nails

Davis got the role after beating out Octavia Spencer, Oprah Winfrey, and Kerry Washington. Waller’s placement in the Suicide Squad world intrigued Davis to audition for it.

“I’m fascinated by her. I’m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun,” she told Nerd Report. In 2017, she was nominated for her work at the BET Awards.

Bullet The Blue Sky

One constant while filming Suicide Squad was Jared Leto giving his co-stars insane gifts. Davis was gifted a box of bullets from the Oscar-winning star. After filming, she finally ran into Leto out of character, and things almost got messy. “Before that, I was only introduced to The Joker… and I almost had my pepper spray out. You know, ‘You remember that bullet you sent me?'” she told E!

The Suicide Squad 2 will be unveiled on August 6, 2021. Filming starts this September in Atlanta, Georgia.

When Real-Life Plays A Part In TV Plotlines

Not every show has its plot lined out from the moment the pilot airs, and still, sometimes real-life can get in the way. Even the best laid plans can go awry, and sometimes plotlines are created entirely to accommodate an actor’s unexpected personal issue. From pregnancies to off-set injuries (and of course plenty of on-set injuries), writers are reworking scripts so that you’d never know something else was happening behind the scenes. Think you know why an actor exited a show? We’ll bet you didn’t even realize that some major show plots happened out of serendipity. Read on to find out how in some cases, the truth really is stranger than fiction.
