Every Upcoming Reboot and Revival To Cure Your TV Nostalgia

Feeling nostalgic for your favorite shows? Our desire to reunite with the characters we grew up with from decades past has reached a fever pitch, and Hollywood has heard our plea! We’re keeping track of every reboot and revival coming our way, and we can’t wait to catch up with all of TV’s best and most beloved characters. For more on the most promising (and surprising) reboots being made, read on!
1. Mad About You
Status: airing on Spectrum November 20, 2019
The Buchmans are back! Originally running for seven seasons from 1992-1999, Mad About You was a sitcom centered around newlywed couple Paul and Jamie, and their daily trials and tribulations in New York City. The reboot is set to air on Spectrum with original stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt returning.

Back in 1999 the Buchmans were just embarking on parenthood, but 20 years have passed since then, and the newlyweds and new parents will be facing a whole new set of issues in the reboot. The new season is set to run as a limited series, focusing on the Buchmans coping with their daughter going off to college.
2. Veronica Mars
Status: premiered on Hulu July 19, 2019
Calling all Marshmallows (the nickname for Veronica Mars fans) – there’s a fresh mystery in Neptune! Every fan favorite character came back on board, including, of course, Kristen Bell’s titular private investigator, her on-off love interest Logan, her sweet yet surly father Keith, goofy but lovable Dick Casablancas, and more.

Warner Bros./IMDB
Airing from 2004-2007, the show has always been a cult classic, so much so that a crowdfunded Veronica Mars movie was made in 2014. This new season is set to see a more adult adventure as it takes place five years after the film. It’s time to find out, is Veronica still the sleuth she once was?
3. Party of Five
Status: airing on Freeform on January 8, 2020
Break out the box of tissues, there’s a new Party of Five, and it will definitely be bringing just as much heart-wrenching drama as the “groundbreaking original series.” The core thesis of the show remains the same – five siblings forced to figure out adulthood while still adolescents, but this is a reboot not a revival, and the show has been tweaked to reflect the times.

Columbia Pictures Television/IMDB
The original series was about five siblings, orphaned after their parents tragically pass away in a car accident, but this time, instead of the Salingers, Party of Five is focusing on the Acosta siblings, whose parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico.
4. Miami Vice
Status: in development to be released in 2020
We’ve gotten our hopes up before about a reboot of iconic ’80s buddy cop procedural Miami Vice, but this time it looks like there’s a real reason to get excited. Vin Diesel is set to produce, and we trust the Fast & Furious star to see the project through.

Silver Screen Collection/Getty Images
Famous for its flashy fashion choices and the quippy repartee between the show’s stars Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, Miami Vice has basically become synonymous with ’80s pop culture, and now it’s time for a new generation to get in on the action. So break out your best pastel suit because Crockett and Tubbs will be back!
5. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Status: early development
There is always fan concern when news breaks that their beloved show is being rebooted, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans need not worry one bit, the show is in good hands — original show creator Joss Whedon is bringing Buffy back, and with a twist too.

Getty Images/Handout
Buffy Summers was a total boss, taking down demons and all kinds of undead baddies, but her story came to a close in 2003. Sarah Michelle Geller has confirmed she won’t be back for the new series, but she’s excited to see what kind of stories the new Buffy, a black female lead, will be telling.
6. Frasier
Status: very early development
Initially the spin-off of Cheers, Frasier became a successful sitcom in its own right, so why not center another series on Frasier Crane — we’ve certainly missed the pretentious talk-radio therapist. According to star Kelsey Grammer, a revival is in the works, but he is adamant it won’t be a revisit of the same stories – Frasier will look a lot different.

Gale Adler/Paramount/Getty Images
Grammer would like to see where Frasier and his family and friends have found themselves all these years later, and is excited to bring new stories to the small screen. The Frasier revival is in the early stages, with a script being written presently and shopped around to networks.
7. Punky Brewster
Status: in early development at NBC
There must be some “Punky power” at play, because Punky Brewster will be back on TV, after airing its last episode a little over 30 years ago. And of course, since some decades have passed, don’t expect the revival to be the same as the original series.

NBC/IMDB
Plucky orphan Punky Brewster, played by Soleil Moon Frye, found herself a new family in foster dad Henry, and along the way there was silliness aplenty. Well, Frye will reprise her role, only now playing Punky the single mother to three young kids. While trying to juggle everything, Punky meets a young girl, who happens to remind her a lot of herself.
8. NYPD Blue
Status: moved to off-cycle for more workshopping at ABC
If you are going to revive such an iconic cop show like NYPD Blue, it is of the utmost importance that you get it absolutely right. It’s for that reason that ABC has decided to workshop the new series a bit, although the overall plot seems pretty set in stone.

Mitchell Gerber/Corbis/ VCG via Getty Images
NYPD Blue will pay homage to the original by centering the show around Theo, son of the famed Detective Andy Sipowicz, as he works to earn his detective shield among his fellows cops at the 15th squad. And die hard fans of the original series can rest assured knowing that Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup will both be reviving their characters.
9. The Sopranos
Status: being released September 25, 2020
Sure it was Tony himself who said “‘Remember when’ is the lowest form of conversation,” but we’re going to assume that doesn’t pertain to The Sopranos prequel, The Many Saints of Newark. The film was written by David Chase himself, original writer behind the smash hit series, and is featuring a very inspired new actor in the lead role.

HBO/Getty Images
The Many Saints of Newark will bring us back into the ’60s and ’70s, delving into Tony Soprano’s early life during the 1967 Newark riots. And who better to play the younger version of the man, the myth, the mobster, Tony Soprano himself, than the late great James Gandolfini’s son, Michael.
10. Bewitched
Status: moved to off-cycle for some more workshopping at ABC
No need to twitch your nose or cast a spell to see Bewitched back on your screen, the iconic ’60s sitcom will be rebooted before you know it! Under the fresh new vision of Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Bewitched will be brought into the 21st century.

FILES/AFP/Getty Images
While the show’s premise remains largely the same, Barris’ Bewitched will focus on Samantha, a black single mother who also happens to be a witch, newly married to a white man, Darrin. Initially reported to be coming to ABC in 2019, the network rolled Bewitched to the off-cycle for more workshopping, eyeing a 2020 premiere date.
11. The Facts of Life
Status: in early development
You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have The Facts of Life reboot. While some classic television revivals have to be tweaked to suit more modern times, The Facts of Life focused on the issues facing teenage girls, a premise that anyone can agree is evergreen.

NBC Television/Courtesy of Getty Images
Still in the early stages, The Facts of Life will hopefully find its second life as a joint venture between Leonardo DiCaprio’s and Jessica Biel’s respective production companies. Sony TV, the studio set to house the project is rumored to be shopping around for a scriptwriter, and we suspect further updates will be forthcoming.
12. Designing Women
Status: in development at ABC
The Sugarbaker gals are coming back to the small screen, but the Designing Women series currently set to air on ABC isn’t exactly a reboot or revival, apparently it’s more like a sequel. The script, which has been written by original show writer Linda Bloodworth Thomason, will focus on a new generation of designers, but with similar issues.

Fotos International/Courtesy Getty Images
Designing Women was lauded for handling, with razor sharp Southern wit no less, political, cultural and social dialogue — something the network executives are excited to bring to a fresh and eager audience. Because if one thing is for sure, the feisty Southern women of Designing Women never go out of style.
13. Babysitters Club
Status: a 10-episode first season has been ordered by Netflix
Ladies who lived through the ’90s, we have some exciting news! The widely popular book series The Baby-Sitters Club is being adapted into a series…again. HBO originally brought the books to the small screen in 1990, and now nearly 20 years later, the babysitting BFFs from Stoneybrook will be back thanks to Netflix.

Columbia Pictures/IMDB
Author Ann M. Martin is involved in the modernization of the series’ storylines, presenting our young female entrepreneurs with present-day problems. With over 176 million copies of the books sold, the HBO series and even a feature film released in theaters in 1995, here’s hoping this version finally gets beloved The Baby-Sitters Club right.
14. Beverly Hills 90210
Status: aired on Global August 7, 2019
We’re not quite sure how to classify the newest addition to the Beverly Hills 90210 canon, because it’s not quite a reboot, nor is it a revival in the traditional sense. But make no mistake about it, all your favorite Peach Pit partiers are coming back to TV.

mikel roberts/Sygma via Getty Images
Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty and Gabrielle Carteris are all on board the “event series” which is supposedly loosely based on the actual actors’ lives as they pursue the possibility of reviving Beverly Hills 90210. Everyone will be playing heightened versions of themselves — it’s all very meta, and certain to be very dramatic.
15. Nancy Drew
Status: aired on The CW October 9, 2019
She’s been the star of five different films, two television adaptations and four unsuccessful television pilots, and always to mixed if not lukewarm reviews. But at long last, The CW may have finally cracked the case of Nancy Drew. Taking a page out of Riverdale’s playbook, Nancy Drew is going dark.

Ron Galella, Ltd./Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images
Far from being the female equivalent of the Hardy Boys, this Nancy Drew is fearless in her quest to seek clues and solve crimes. Kennedy McMann will play the titular detective in one of her first major acting roles, while her father will be played by Party of Five veteran (whose own former show is being rebooted) Scott Wolf.
16. The Munsters
Status: in development at NBC
Your television is going to get a lot spookier, now that The Munsters are being rebooted for the first time since the ’60s. Centering around the same ghoulish group, dad/Frankenstein-style monster Herman, wife/vampiress Lily, elderly vampire Grandpa, shockingly normal niece Marilyn, and son/vampire-werewolf hybrid Eddie.

John Springer Collection/CORBIS/ Corbis via Getty Images
The Munsters will be moving out of their Mockingbird Lane, California house, with the reboot relocating the family to a brownstone in hipster Brooklyn — ensuring hilarity will ensue. Jill Kargman (Odd Mom Out) is writing the script, while Seth Meyers will be producing – and that’s a comedic duo we can count on.
17. Alice
Status: in development at FOX
What’s old is new again, as FOX is working with Juno scribe Diablo Cody and 2 Broke Girls writer Liz Astrof to revamp the ’70s workplace comedy Alice for a new generation. Mel’s Diner will be opening its doors to a new single mother in need.

CBS/IMDB
Following a similar format as the original, Alice will be fleeing with her teenaged son Tommy cross-country after leaving her adulterous husband, landing at a road-side diner in Arizona. The restaurant staff become a sort of family for the two East Coast transplants. Comedy will surely ensue, and assuming this reboot is anything like the original, plenty of teachable moments too.
18. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Status: coming to HGTV 2020
Have you missed the moment when you shouted along at your television, chanting “Move that bus!”? Because HGTV is bringing back Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and just like the families getting new lodgings and fresh leases on life, it’ll be better than ever.

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images
The show isn’t getting much of a makeover itself, making it more a revival than a reboot. The format will stay the same: a family without the means or mode to alter their house to suit their growing needs will get their highly deserved dream house. And as that moving bus pulls out and reveals the new house, cue the waterworks all over again. This time, though, Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson will take over the energetic Ty Pennington’s role as host.
19. The L Word
Status: airing on Showtime December 8, 2019
Already being described as a “deep-dive-wild-ride,” we’re not sure we’re ready for all the drama that’s about to go down on The L Word revival. Showtime announced it was bringing back the groundbreaking series about the love lives of a slew of Los Angeles based lesbian and bisexual ladies for an eight-episode season.

Showtime/IMDB
Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, Leisha Hailey and Sarah Shahi are all set to star in the revival, titled The L Word: Generation Q. Continuing with their stories, the show will also include the addition of a new generation of LGBTQIA characters taking on similar issues as the original series, but in a different socio-political landscape.
20. Northern Exposure
Status: in development at CBS
The revival craze continues, this time, taking us back to Alaska with the quirky characters of Northern Exposure. The new season will be a continuation of the original series, and co-creators Joshua Brand and John Falsey are bringing back all your favorite characters — including the previously departed show star Rob Morrow.

CBS/IMDB
The last season of Northern Exposure saw Morrow take a smaller role on the series, before exiting with seven episodes left before the finale. The revival would bring Morrow’s Dr. Joel Fleischman back to Cicely, Alaska, where he would be reunited with John Corbett’s Chris Stevens, Janine Turner’s Maggie, and a cast of familiar and fresh faces alike.
21. Roswell
Status: season 1 aired on The CW January-April 2019, renewed for a second season
Extraterrestrial teen drama Roswell is back, thanks to the faithful fans who have long stood by Roswell, campaigning for a revival almost as soon as it was cancelled in 2002. Under an updated title, Roswell: New Mexico, the show’s premise has been updated a bit too, to reflect current events.

Getty Images
Roswell: New Mexico is similar to the original, focusing on female lead Liz Ortecho coming back to her hometown and reigniting the flames of her high school crush, who also happens to be a secret alien. In the interest of keeping things contemporary, Liz’s parents are illegal immigrants, living in a town with increasingly concerning race relations.
22. Queer As Folk
Status: in development at Bravo
Third time’s a charm for Queer As Folk. Initially a British series about a group of young gay men, and featuring Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam in one of his earlier roles, the show was brought stateside in 2000, and set in Pittsburg. The newest iteration of Queer As Folk will again bring the drama to a new city.

IMDb/Showtime
Details such as the setting or cast are still scarce, but we do know this much: Queer As Folk will be following the British series’ premise pretty closely, telling the stories of a group of club-going young gay men, who band together after all suffering some sort of tragedy.
23. The Twilight Zone
Status: season 1 available on CBS AllAccess, renewed for season 2
“You are traveling through another dimension…next stop, The Twilight Zone!” comes Rod Serling’s steady voice…only it’s not Rod Serling, it’s Jordan Peele, and it’s not the late 1950s, it’s 2019. But don’t worry you haven’t actually entered The Twilight Zone, it’s just the reboot.

Silver Screen Collection/Getty Images
The famed anthology series has maintained its status and an important piece of small screen history, and is still watchable on TV today since it’s still in syndication. But when you’re craving new twists and turns and often with an overwhelming air of eeriness, the reboot is here to take you into The Twilight Zone (2.0).
24. Amazing Stories
Status: in development at Apple TV
Anthology series have seen a real resurrection lately, especially crime anthologies, but what about science-fiction or fantasy? Barring The Twilight Zone (more on that later in this list), there’s one show that stands out in our collective TV memory as satisfying the need for such niche storytelling – Steven Spielberg’s award-winning Amazing Stories.

Images Press/IMAGES/Getty Images
Director’s like Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorsese, and a whole slew of A-list actors, helmed episodes during the show’s original run between 1985-1987. No word yet on if any of the stars originally involved will be make any sort of appearance in the revival, but one thing is for certain, Amazing Stories is going to be, well, amazing.
25. The Jetsons
Status: in development at ABC
If anyone is able to bring the beloved ’60s cartoon to life, it’s Back to the Future writer/director Robert Zemeckis. The specifics of the series, such as the cast, hasn’t been hammered out quite yet, but here’s what we do know about The Jetsons reboot.

Warner Bros./Courtesy of Getty Images
The show is going to be live-action, but based on the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Even more exciting is that it’s set to be filmed in front of a live studio audience. Special effects will be included to give the show a futuristic feel, and we can’t imagine what that means is happening on set during filming, but we can’t wait to find out.
