The Transformation Of Sofia Vergara’s Son Manolo

Published

on

Four-time Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara is one of the most powerful women in the world. All of the fame didn’t just come on a plate. Her true strength lies within one person: her only child Manolo. Over the years, he’s become a major influence on her career.

Coming Into The World

At the age of 19, Vergara gave birth to Manolo down in Columbia. While her marriage to high-school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez started out fine, things died down. Two years after bringing her child into the world, Vergara was divorced. The two, however, still remain good friends to this day.

Long Promised Road

Being a single mother at a young age was rough for Vergara. “It’s a big responsibility; you can’t go out much at night. Instead of buying a pair of shoes, you have to buy diapers,” she told Redbook. Around this time, Vergara gained fame for hosting various shows on Univision. With her weekly paychecks, she was able to take care of her son.

A Turning Point

In 1999, Vergara made her American television debut on an episode of Baywatch. After an appearance on My Wife & Kids, she signed a four year deal with ABC. After starring in the canceled shows Hot Properties and Dirty Sexy Money, she struck gold with Modern Family. “Steve McPherson, the ABC president until recently, really believed in me from the beginning,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Making Computers Melt

During this time, Manolo was accepted to Boston’s Emerson College to get a degree in film. While he had less time with his mom, they still managed to share their hijinks on Instagram. At the 2017 Emmys, Sofia brought Manolo as her date, and the internet went wild. Many people confused him for her younger brother.

Live And Learn

Manolo, who is now working as a model and actor, learned from his mother about sacrifice and perseverance. He also learned that kindness goes a long way. “When people compliment me on him, on how well mannered, how charming, funny and well-behaved he is, it makes all the sacrifices worthwhile,” she told People.
