J.R.R. Tolkien To Posthumously Publish ‘The Fall Of Gondolin’ This Summer

While J.R.R. Tolkien has been gone for 45 years, his impact on literature can still be felt. If you’re looking to expand on your Tolkien collection, you’ll get your chance very soon.

The Summer Of Gondolin

This summer, a new book from the iconic author will be released through HarperCollins and Houghton Mifflin. Titled The Fall of Gondolin, the book deals with the destruction of the town of Gondolin. Parts of the story were originally featured in 1977’s The Silmarillion. This will be the first time the entire story is released in full.

Much like that posthumous collection, The Fall of Gondolin was edited by the author’s son Christopher Tolkien. In the music world, Irish metal band Cruachan named a song from their 2004 album Pagan after the story.

Keeping The Legacy Alive

Over the decades, A plethora of books by Tolkien were released posthumously. Last year, The Tale of Beren and Lúthien was released as a standalone book. Much like The Fall of Gondolin, it was included in The Silmarillion collectionThe story was also mentioned in the book The Fellowship of the Ring.

New Line Cinema

One piece that fans are eager to get published is Tolkien’s collaboration with C. S. Lewis. While it was announced in 1950, a draft of the story was only discovered in 2009.

Small Screen Tales

Recently, it was revealed that Tolkien’s most popular book series was making a return. A television adaptation of The Lord of the Rings is slated to arrive on Amazon. The show is said to feature several stories from Tolkien that take place before The Fellowship of the Ring.

New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema, who worked on the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, will return to lend a hand. The show is rumored to cost $1 billion to make, which would make it the most expensive show to date. Amazon bought the five season TV rights for $250 million.
