Tiny Homes Aren’t Just Trendy—They’re New Hope for the Homeless

Published

on

Now, more than ever, our world needs good people who are willing to help others. Fortunately, there are still some to be found, such as these fine people of Phoenix, Arizona. They’re looking to solve their local homelessness problem in a creative way.

Turning Dirt Lots Into Dreams Come True

While most of us might drive past an empty lot and see nothing but dirt, president of Build Us H.O.P.E. Elizabeth Singleton sees so much more than that.

“We want to create an environment for the homeless that are in this community where they can contribute,” Singleton said. She was describing the community’s effort to build a grand total of 1,200 tiny houses to give to the homeless and disabled veterans as a place to call their own.

A Volunteer Spirit

Some of the volunteers have never done any kind of construction work, some are students from Arizona State University, and others are homeless people that want to contribute. They all share a common goal as they seek to build homes for those without them.

The finished tiny homes from Build Us H.O.P.E. will be roughly 300 to 450 square feet in size.

Let’s Get It Done

Greenlight Solutions is a non-profit organization that helps bring students together with the mission of Build Us H.O.P.E. “We’re just trying to get it done instead of talking about it,” said Kevin Keleher, the executive director of Greenlight Solutions, “It’s a really exciting time.”

Homeless People Will Soon Have Roofs Over Their Heads

This tiny homes project is no longer just a fantasy. It has quickly become a reality and is estimated to be fully completed in three weeks. These types of sites will then be used as models, to be replicated throughout the country.
