Timothée Chalamet is slated to portray Paul Atreides in the film. The character is a central part of the first two books in the Dune franchise.

2017 was a major year for Chalamet, which found him starring in acclaimed movies Call Me by Your Name and Lady Bird. His work on Call Me by Your Name earned him Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor. His upcoming projects include Beautiful Boy and The King.

The forthcoming Dune film is being directed by Blade Runner 2049‘s Denis Villeneuve. When it comes to the movie, the director states that it’ll be reminiscent of another iconic sci-fi franchise. “The ambition is to do the Star Wars movie I never saw. In a way, it’s Star Wars for adults,” he told FANDOM. The director is looking to make this into a two-part movie.

Universal Pictures

Brian Herbert, who is the son of Dune creator Frank Herbert, is in love with the film’s script. “I’m very excited and pleased about this, and I’m beginning to burn the midnight oil,” he said over on Twitter.

Dune On The Small Screen?

Dune won’t just return in movie form. Legendary Entertainment is also eyeing a possible television series. Dune and 1976’s Children of Dune were both adapted into television miniseries on SyFy back in 2000 and 2003, respectively. Both miniseries earned a combined three Emmy Awards.

Dune has been continuing its intense story with the release of 19 books in total. The latest novel was 2016’s Navigators of Dune.
