Tiffany & Co. Jewelry to Feature its First Gay Couple Ad

Major changes and progress are being made in the fashion world for same-sex couples. As we all know fashion in general does not depict reality but a fantasy. Even in this case they fail to depict current actual relationships in reality. This is a first for the luxury jewelry retailer in their 178 year history. The models shown are actually a real couple in the “Will You?” campaign CNN reports. Peter Lindbergh was the visionary behind the camera and the ad features six other couples. Same-sex marriage is legal in over 19 states in the United States but mainstream media are still unsure how to market or promote this liberty due to it being illegal in 31 states and two U.S territories. Tiffany & Co. just didn’t stop there; they also featured a couple with a child at a wedding. This depicts the changes in matrimony with people re-marrying with children. “Nowadays, the road to marriage is no longer linear,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement. “True love can happen more than once with love stories coming in a variety of forms.” Major fashion companies have also followed suit for more equality in their campaigns of same-sex couples including Gap, Banana Republic and J. Crew. Every time a company with reach and influence breaks the stereotypes of society it is a win for all diversity.
