Throwback Chris Pratt Interview Will Make You Love Him Even More

Published

on

Is there a more widely loved actor in Hollywood these days than Chris Pratt? From his early days playing the goofy Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, fans have fallen in love with the charming, hilarious, and light-hearted actor. And while he’s come a long way in his career, a recently resurfaced interview demonstrates he has pretty much stayed true to himself along the way.

The Likability Of Laughing

One of the things that can make actors so relatable is humor, both on and off the screen. So it makes sense why Pratt is so widely liked. Whether he’s playing a character, posting on social media, or being interviewed, Pratt showcases his willingness to let loose and make things fun. You often hear stories about actors changing once they get super famous, yet Pratt seems to have retained the same personality and outlook he had while first starting out.

This became especially clear when Entertainment Tonight recently shared one of the interviews they had with Chris Pratt from way back in 2002— almost two decades ago. At the time, Pratt had just booked his first role in a TV series, Everwood.

Blast From The Past

In the video, Pratt explains he left his position as a salesman to pursue his acting career (but not before winning National Salesman of the Year). He added that his time in sales familiarized him with rejection, which eventually led to (and undoubtedly helped) his acting career. During the interview, Pratt shared a very honest and feel-good answer about his goals. “I want to never take life too seriously,” the actor said. “And I want to always have fun, and I want to always make decisions that allow me to do that. I want to be a free spirit.”

It’s heartwarming to watch and hear an actor so early in his career having such humble and admirable aspirations, especially knowing he seems to have stuck with them.

The Role That Almost Wasn’t

Although Pratt hasn’t demonstrated any major personality changes, not the same can be said for his physical appearance. Pratt’s career really started taking off and catching the attention of many when he dropped 70 pounds for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, an accomplishment he attributed to eliminating beer from his diet. Seemingly overnight, the actor transformed from an adorable, cuddly type actor to a super fit stud.

His hard work certainly paid off. Pratt plays Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Marvel superhero movies. Interestingly enough, though, it almost didn’t happen. While at the recent Los Angeles premiere of “Avengers: Endgame,” the Marvel movies casting director, Sarah Finn, revealed Pratt initially had no interest in playing the part and actually “refused to audition.” Finn also shared that after finally getting the film’s director, James Dunn, to agree to see Pratt, within 10 seconds of his audition Dunn decided “he’s the guy.”

Peering Into Pratt’s Personal Life

It’s now five years later and Pratt just attended the premiere of his third Marvel movie with his fiance Katherine Schwarzenegger (author, and daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger). Pratt was also famously married to actress Anna Farris. Although the two separated in 2017, they have continued to show support and kindness toward one another as they co-parent their son Jack.

In the Entertainment Tonight throwback interview, when questioned about engagements, Pratt shared that once engaged he thinks the wedding should happen within a year. If he still has that sentiment today, we could be expecting a wedding in the next few months! Pratt more recently shared that he thinks the relationship advice about never going to bed mad is “garbage,” explaining that sometimes it’s okay to go to bed mad, so long as you “at least touch toes.”

For a man who used to live out of a van while working as a waiter at Bubba Gump Shrimp, it’s easy to see Pratt has done incredibly well for himself and deserves every moment of fame and praise he receives. And, fortunately for us, it doesn’t look like he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon. We’ll likely be seeing much more of this fun free spirit and watching him continue to make decisions that allow him to always have fun and never take life too seriously.
