Just when you thought you knew it all about Fetty Wap, think again. This transcendent rapper has had a crazy life, and his hit single Trap Queen is just a small part of it. From surviving homelessness to randomly stumbling upon the track that made him famous, Wap’s star continues to rise. Read on to find out eight things that you always wanted to know about Fetty Wap.
First of all, growing up wasn’t easy for Fetty Wap. Born Willie Zoovier, his childhood years were spent in the rough and tumble city of Paterson, New Jersey. He even confessed to Interview magazine that his education was spent at “the worst school in the city.” However, The Guardian reports that his religious family’s weekly church attendance saved Wap early on. As the drummer in his church band, Wap’s family allegedly accompanied him on the vocals, the keyboard, the bass, and the percussion. Although his uncle reportedly encouraged him to hone his drumming, Wap had bigger things in mind.
Yet, even the promising young Fetty Wap struggled with homelessness. After leaving high school, he had a difficult time entering the real world. According to Fetty, “As I got older, I was like, ‘I want to do my own thing.’ I wasn’t seeing eye to eye with my parents.” So the aspiring rapper got by couchsurfing with friends. In fact, he was fortunate to even have a couch to sleep on. In 2016, Fetty revealed to The Guardian that “I didn’t even get to use no bed. I was lucky to have a carpet.” Boy, have things changed for the better!
And now the question that you’ve all been waiting for: what happened to Fetty Wap’s eye? In February 2015, Fetty told VIP Saturday that his missing left eye was the result of an incident that occurred in his youth. He shared that “The doctor saved one … so I was blessed to have my vision.” Although he originally had a prosthetic eye, he dished that he ditched it “because [he] didn’t want to look like everybody else.” About his disability, he shared on Instagram that “I had little faith cause I looked different but my mom always told me I was a King … Anybody with a disability trust me your great you just have to believe in yourself I promise.”
Apparently, Wap’s beat for his 2014 debut single Trap Queen was a stroke of luck. The Guardian revealed that Fetty actually found the legendary instrumental for his song on producer Tony Fadd’s website. The media outlet also stated that Wapp cut an epic royalty agreement with Fadd after putting the final touches on the song. Surprisingly, the track was still trending in 2018, when it was certified platinum seven times.
If you’re wondering about how the rapper came up with his name, it’s actually a pretty simple explanation. While talking to GlobalGrindTV in 2015, he explained that “‘Fetty’ is money. “Wap is from [fellow rapper] Gucci Mane [nickname] Guwop.” Since Willie Zoovier isn’t exactly the hardest name in the rap game, Fetty Wap was definitely the right choice!
Fans of the Wap might be scratching their heads as to why Wap calls his crew the “Remy Boyz.” But have no fear, the answers are here. He actually named his friends after his favorite liquor: Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac. Speaking to Vlad TV in 2015, he shared that “If you go to the liquor store and you get a bottle of 1738, it’s going to be the most expensive Remy. And that’s what we planned out to be. … We the finest. We taste the best and everything.” Makes sense to us!
No Days Off
You might be surprised to find out that the industrious musician is also a fan of the stock market. During a 2016 interview with Trevor Noah, Wap was asked if he ever thought about working behind the scenes as a producer or agent. Shockingly, Wap responded that “I don’t like all this business stuff, man. I like stocks. … I’m big into stocks. I’ve invested in a lot of stocks.” Wap also disclosed that his accountant inspired his newfound passion for investment.
He elaborated that his accountant “was like, ‘Yo, what if I could turn a million dollars into $20 million?'” He continued to say that “The next day he was at my house, my leg was broken, we were on the computer, looking at it, like, ‘I don’t understand none of this stuff.’ And he breakin’ it down, like, ‘Yo, this is trade values, this is stock minutes, this is going to go up, this is going to drop down. You’ve got to know when to sell, when to trade, when to buy.’ And I was catching on… And now that’s what I do in my free time.” True to his word, Wap posted this sage Instagram caption: “#investthatpaperforlater”

Finally, the craziest thing that you may not have known about Fetty Wap is that the busy man is actually a dad. In Touch reported that he pays $100,000 in child support to six mothers each month. The media outlet also stated that the loving father has had a son with his partner Ariel Reese, a daughter with Masika Kalysha, and another daughter with Alexis Skyy. Us Weekly revealed that he also has a boy and a girl with Lezhae Zeonam, as well as two more little girls named Amani and Lauren. We couldn’t be happier for the proud papa!
