Published

Overwhelming support poured in for The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) following his Instagram post in which he shared the story of his mother’s suicide attempt.

A Hero In Horror

The traumatic event triggered years of depression and pain for Johnson — though his mother, thankfully, was not successful in her attempt. In detail, he described the day she stepped out of their car and into oncoming traffic. Luckily, Johnson’s heroism is not limited to his action thrillers.

Though he was only 15 years old, he acted with speed and bravery. He grabbed her and pulled her to safety. Of course, the devastating incident had a huge impact on The Rock. “I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere,” he said. “I was crying constantly.” But there is one thing he’s glad of.

The Rock’s Depression

His mother doesn’t remember the day at all, which he says is probably for the best. That day sent Johnson into depression for several years, magnified by serious injuries threatening his athletic career. Yet, he took something positive from the experience.

Namely, a desire to help others. He said, “we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain.” And then he made a vow.

Dedicated To Helping Others

He emphasized, “We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.” Indeed, the movie and sports star gives much of his fortune to charity, donating both his time and money to the fans and communities who love him.

He has his own charity organization: The Dwayne Johnson ROCK Foundation, which strives to improve the health and self-esteem of critically ill or disabled children. He’s a hope and inspiration for everyone, demonstrating that it’s more than possible to crawl out of rock bottom, toward a life filled with purpose.
