The CW Orders Several Pilots, Including ‘Jane The Virgin’ and ‘Riverdale’ Spinoffs

The CW has been delivering some massive entertainment over the past several years. Last season saw the debuts of All American and Legacies. We also got the return of beloved fantasy drama Charmed. The channel will continue to grow with some newly announced programs.

Spinoffs For Days

It was recently announced that the network picked up four pilots. One pilot that was previously announced was Katy Keene, which is a Riverdale spinoff. The show follows Keene and her friends trying to become superstars in New York City. This will be the second spinoff in the Riverdale universe following The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina.

The CW

Katy Keene isn’t the only spinoff series headed to the network. Jane the Virgin will have its own spinoff titled Jane the Novela. This anthology series will be based on fictional stories written by Jane Villanueva. Executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman states that characters from Virgin won’t be in the first season. “Once we get a year where we establish new characters, then we can see what comes… I love [the Jane the Virgin] cast I’d be lucky to work with every single one of them again and I really hope to,” she said at the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association press tour.

Some Old Favorites Return

Beloved sleuth Nancy Drew will also find a place on the network. The show is being produced by Fake Empire, which also worked on CW shows Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie. This will be the third Nancy Drew TV series attempt in four years. CBS and NBC both had their own Drew series that were ultimately not picked up.

Warner Home Video

The fourth (and final) pilot being picked up is The Lost Boys reboot. This series was originally announced back in 2016, but it was put on hold. Spondoodle, Gulfstream TV and Warner Bros TV will be producing the show.

Quiet On The Set

These four shows will be joining Batwoman in the pilot order extravaganza. That show will be run by Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti.

The CW

With so many shows in the works, it will be interesting to see which will become surprise hits — and which will become surprise flops.
