‘The Conners’ Are Back At It Again With This Cast Photo

Last year, Roseanne came back into our homes with rave reviews. Just like a New York minute, anything can change, and things did — drastically. Fortunately, The Conners will return us to the family we love. The producers gave fans a small glimpse of what’s to come.

The Gang’s All Here

The show’s official Twitter account delivered a shot of the cast reading their scripts. The Conners will find all of your favorite characters from Roseanne, except for Roseanne herself. This series will also find a new co-star in Maya Lynne Robinson. The Los Angeles based actress will portray the role of D.J.’s wife Geena.

Xosha Roquemore originally played the character in the Roseanne revival. She only appeared once via a Skype session in the episode “Go Cubs.” “We’re thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Maya Lynne Robinson to the cast this season,” producer Bruce Helford said in a press release. There’s no word as to why Roquemore chose to not reprise her role.

A Dark Moment

When it came to Roseanne being canceled, star John Goodman didn’t take the news too well. “I went through a period, about a month, where I was very depressed. I’m a depressive anyway, so any excuse that I can get to lower myself, I will,” he told The Sunday Times Magazine.

In order for the show to continue, he stated that Roseanne Barr had to give everything up. “She had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on,” he said.

More Laughter Ahead

The Conners is slated to be released on October 16. Its debut episode called “Keep On Truckin'” will deal with the death of Roseanne’s character.

The 10 episode season will take over the timeslot Roseanne would’ve held in the fall.

When Real-Life Plays A Part In TV Plotlines

Not every show has its plot lined out from the moment the pilot airs, and still, sometimes real-life can get in the way. Even the best laid plans can go awry, and sometimes plotlines are created entirely to accommodate an actor’s unexpected personal issue. From pregnancies to off-set injuries (and of course plenty of on-set injuries), writers are reworking scripts so that you’d never know something else was happening behind the scenes. Think you know why an actor exited a show? We’ll bet you didn’t even realize that some major show plots happened out of serendipity. Read on to find out how in some cases, the truth really is stranger than fiction.
