Liam Neeson has been a gem in the acting world since his acting debut in 1976. The Oscar nominee has earned fans worldwide for his work in Schindler’s List and the Taken franchise. When it comes to their love life, Neeson has seen its ups and downs.
Neeson And Mirren
Neeson’s first noticeable relationship was with Helen Mirren. The two met on the set of 1981’s Excalibur. While the pair lived together, Neeson struggled to find solid acting roles. Excalibur was Neeson’s theatrical debut
Mirren, who was already a big name in Hollywood, aided in Neeson’s career by finding him an agent. Unfortunately, things didn’t go up right away. The couple would call things off after five years together, but they still remained friends. “It was difficult for him to be under my shadow. I was well known; I had the money,” Mirren told the New York Times in 1994. “I had a sense from Liam that it was time for him to come out from under my wing. He handled it with great elegance and grace. We loved each other. It was difficult to let go.”
In 2018, the pair appeared together on an episode of The Graham Norton Show. Neeson described how he knew Mirren was into him. “Before I met her and we worked together, I had read somewhere that if she fancied a guy she would imitate his walk behind his back. And I turned around one day and she was doing that to me,” Neeson said on the TV show.

When Neeson Met Richardson
By the time 1993 arrived, Neeson was launched into the spotlight with Schindler’s List. That same year, he met actress Natasha Richardson while working on the 1993 revival of Anna Christie. The two had amazing chemistry. Following Richardson’s divorce from producer Robert Fox, Neeson and the actress began dating. “It was not an easy time when I met Liam,” Richardson told the Daily News. “Working with him, what happened between us, and that becoming public knowledge in conjunction with my marriage falling apart, was kind of bad timing. So what can I say? Obviously, I fell very much in love with him.”
After a year of dating, the pair got married in July 1994. With the arrival of two sons, the couple lived in marital bliss. Unfortunately, things turned tragic when Richardson was injured in a skiing accident. The actress passed away due to a head injury on March 18, 2009. Upon her death, Neeson donated her organs, which aided the lives of three individuals.
Who’s Neeson Seeing Now?
A year after Richardson’s death, Neeson began a relationship with British publicist Freya St. Johnston. The pair met through mutual friends in the movie industry. One thing they have in common is the love of their kids. Like Neeson, Johnston has two children, including one from her ex Matt Winton. The pair have been an on-again, off-again relationship over the years. In 2012, the pair broke up days after being seen together in Rome. Neeson’s busy work schedule had forced the couple to go their separate ways, albeit only temporarily. Things changed, though, and the couple was together again the next year.
Neeson invited Johnston to the 2016 Irish Film and TV Awards. Instead of arriving at the ceremony together, they came separately. That night, Neeson was being awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award from President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins. Johnston sat behind Neeson throughout the night. Following the ceremony, no one has seen the couple together in public. One thing Neeson enjoys more than anything is his privacy.
With their shifting status, the couple could be taking another break. Whatever happens, Neeson will always have the love of his friends and family to keep him strong.
