Indiana Teen Finds Heartwarming Letter After Mom Dies of Cancer

Published

on

Peggy Summers, a mother from Indiana, was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer in July 2016. She underwent a life-threatening surgical procedure to remove the invasive cancerous cells. Unfortunately, her condition had already become irreversible and she passed away on Tuesday. Alas, she did not go without telling her husband and children what she wanted to say – she wrote them a letter before she underwent surgery.

Hannah Summers, the couple’s 19-year-old daughter, found the letter moments after her mother passed away. It was hidden behind a jewelry box inside her dresser, and it began: “Hannah, if you are reading this then the surgery did not go well. I’m sorry, I tried my best to beat this terrible disease but I guess God had other things for me to do.”

“Please don’t be mad, bad things happen in life and we have to learn to deal with it no matter how much it hurts.”

The one-and-a-half page letter Summers wrote to her daughter included advice about her future, asked her to ‘concentrate on school’, and to be patient with her dad as he would need time to recover from his wife’s death.

The heedful mom also emphasized that her daughter should keep her faith in God strong and cautioned her to stay away from ‘parties because they are usually bad’. The teen found it special for her dying mom to leave her a note before she passed away.

She said: “We all kind of read them by ourselves. I feel lucky to have it. There [are] a lot of people who have lost their parents and wish for something like that.”

Although the letter was printed, Summers left a strong impression by signing the word ‘mom’ by hand. Hannah posted the letter on her social media account, and it has been shared more than 100,000 times.

Situated in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Monica, California, the almost 3,000 acre plot of land upon which Neverland Ranch was constructed has recently been placed back on the market. Nowadays, the one-time residence of international pop sensation Michael Jackson is going by a new name: Sycamore Valley Ranch. Much of the estate is as it was during the 15 years Jackson called it his home, except for a few glaring differences – namely, the removal of the fun-fair rides that gave the home its whimsical name Neverland Ranch.
