Taylor Swift Has Raw Response To Kanye West Confrontation

Kanye West

Taylor Swift and Kanye West have seemingly become synonymous with each other. Since their first confrontation at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, it would seem the two have kept one another in their crosshairs. Recently Taylor Swift shared her side of their latest clash.

Taylor Swift Is A Multi-Genre Star

Taylor Swift is an artist who has had success between two genres. She has won awards for her work in country music and has recently found prosperity in pop music. As far as country music goes, Swift’s second album Fearless in 2009 is the most-awarded country music album of all time. Fearless won album of the year at several different awards shows including The Grammys and The Country Music Awards. Swift continued to succeed in music despite switching genres when her 2016 pop album 1989 won The Grammy for Album Of The Year

Those are just a few of the many achievements of the multi-genre star. Despite all of her accolades it sometimes seems her clash with West in 2009 grabs more headlines.

Swift’s Struggle With Kanye West

At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West upstaged Taylor Swift by stealing the mic away during Swift’s acceptance of the Best Female Video Award. West said that Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video was one of the best music videos of all time. Swift didn’t have much to say at the time, and West seemingly was a bit regretful of the decision as he soon after apologized live on Jay Leno’s Late-Night Show. For better or for worse, the two’s beef did not end there.

In 2016 Kanye West released the song “Famous” as part of his Life Of Pablo album. In the song, he had a line that said “For all my southside ni**as that know me best I feel like me and Swift might still have s*x why? I made that b**ch famous.” Though West did get permission from Swift to include the aforementioned line, it appears there was more to the story. In a recent Rolling Stone interview with Taylor Swift, the star delved into her rocky history with Kanye West. After being asked about the “Famous” song lyrics, Swift had plenty to say. The pop star’s first comments suggested she and West were forming a friendship after the 2009 VMA event. “I started to feel like we reconnected, which felt great for me — because all I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me.Their friendship apparently didn’t last long. According to Swift, West asked her to present the Vanguard award to him at the 2015 VMAs. Swift said she was “stoked” to present the award but then during the presentation, West had this to say “You know how many times they announced Swift was going to give me the award ’cause it got them more ratings?”

Here is how Swift remembers the event in hindsight: “And I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk s**t.”

Moving On

Swift tried to move past the event saying You know what? I really don’t want us to be on bad terms again. So whatever, I’m just going to move past this.” Not long after Swift forgave West, he released the “Famous” song. Even though Swift did give some sort of permission for West to release the song, he didn’t check everything with her. Specifically, West didn’t include that he would refer to Swift as a “b**ch”.  After hearing the song, Swift said of West, “I’m done with this. If you want to be on bad terms, let’s be on bad terms, but just be real about it.”

In the midst of all the drama, Swift has still remained a true artist. The superstar’s seventh studio album Lover released in August of 2019. The album featured 18 tracks with all of them charting on the Billboard Hot 100. Judging from her opening track, “I Forgot You Even Existed,” It’s safe to say she has moved on from her beef with Kanye West.
