Big news for the Swifties! Taylor Swift has been announced as the official opening act for the 2018 American Music Awards.

Swift To The Stage

The singer made the announcement that she will open the star-studded show on Good Morning America through an Instagram video. Swift calmly stated the big news with her cat Meredith sitting beside her. Losing interest in her owner’s big news, Meridith walked off. “Don’t be too excited about it, my God,” Swift joked.

For the AMAs, Swift will perform her song, “I Did Something Bad,” from her latest album, Reputation. This is her first performance at an awards show in almost three years.

Back To The Music

In addition to Swift, there will be amazing performances from Benny Blanco, Halsey, Khalid, and Dua Lipa. Other big names who will be hitting the stage will be Mariah Carey, Ciara, Missy Elliott, Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Carrie Underwood, and Cardi B with Bad Bunny and J Balvin.

Rolling Stone

Panic! At The Disco is also set to pay tribute to Queen, performing the band’s classic song, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” And, of course, there will be an all-star tribute to the late Aretha Franklin. Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, and musical director Rickey Minor will perform in memory of the Queen of Soul.

Eyes On The Prize

Tracee Ellis Ross will host the show for the second year in a row and will also serve as executive producer. Several artists have the potential to take home some big wins this year. Artists with the most nominations are Drake and Cardi B, who both have eight nods. Ed Sheeran and Post Malone each have six nominations, and Camila Cabello is standing strong with five.

American Music Awards

Swift herself is nominated for four AMAs this year: Best Pop/Rock Female Artist, Best Pop/Rock Album, Tour of the Year, and the coveted Artist of the Year. With 19 wins under her belt, she is only two awards away from breaking Whitney Houston’s record for the most AMAs won by a female artist. Houston took home 21 trophies during her lifetime. Viewers will see if who wins big at this year’s American Music Awards, which will air live on October on ABC.
