It Looks Like Sylvester Stallone Might Be Finished With The “Rocky” Franchise

Published

on

A post from actor and long time Rocky mainstay Sylvester Stallone has hinted that he will no longer be a part of the boxing movie franchise. This news would certainly come as a let down to fans of the movies but as Stallone himself stated, “Sadly all things must pass… and end.”

A Telling Post

Stallone recently posted a video that was apparently from the last day of filming Creed II. In the description of the video, Stallone thanked viewers for keeping the Rocky franchise alive over the years and proclaimed that it will never die as it lives on us.

In the video, he declared, “Well, this is probably my last rodeo because what I thought happened, and has happened, I never expected,” Stallone begins. “I thought Rocky was over in 2006. And I was very happy with that.” He then continued, referencing Creed star Michael B. Jordan, “Then all of a sudden this young man presented himself and the whole story changed,” he says. “It went on to a new generation. New problems. New adventures.”

Passing The Torch

“And I couldn’t be happier as I step back because my story has been told, there’s a whole new world that’s going to be opening up with the audience, with this generation,” Stallone says, then to addressed Jordan saying, “Now you have to carry the mantle.”

With that, it would seem that the Creed movies will continue, just without Rocky original Sylvester Stallone.

Not The First Time

While Stallone is certainly sincere, it is worth noting that this is not the first time the actor has said he is leaving the Rocky roll behind and then continued to take part in it instead. Both Rocky 5 and Rocky Balboa were originally intended to be the end of the series yet, here we are two spinoff installments in.

Sylvester Stallone without a doubt has been an integral part of the Rocky and Creed movies and it will certainly be sad to watch him retire from the movies if that is indeed what he intends to do. Nevertheless, with fantastic actors like Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson at the helm, the spirit of Rocky Balboa will live on.
