Superheros Deliver Record-Breaking Numbers To 2018 Box Office

Published

on

With 2018 coming to an end, the Hollywood box office has set a robust record. A large part of this massive movie-going phenomenon has the superhero genre to thank because this year, the silver screen’s beloved crusaders were a huge hit.

Big Bucks

Hollywood’s record-breaking 2018 has brought in roughly $11.38 billion domestically and is projected to bring that up to $11.9 billion by the year’s end. Four of the year’s five top-grossing films fell in the superhero category. These films were Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Incredibles 2, and Deadpool 2.

Consequence of Sound

Black Panther alone brought in a whopping $700,059,566, making it the year’s top-grossing film. Talk about a big success!

Disney Domination

2018’s blockbuster success has not only been specifically due to the superheroes that drew us all out to theatres, it has been directy tied to the behemoth studios of Disney, owners of Marvel Studios.

NME.com

The monster parent company that is Disney alone made up for an enormous 27% of domestic box office revenue this year. That’s a giant chunk!

What Fatigue?

The supposed notion of “superhero fatigue”, the idea that moviegoers would become tired and bored of superhero flicks if studios like Marvel and DC allowed the market to become overly-saturated with them shows no sign of being real in any way. Whether it was the ultimate Marvel mash-up of the new Avengers or the over-the-top beginning of a successful Aquaman hero, there is little to suggest that audiences have had enough.

ComingSoon.net

With the massive success of Marvel films such as Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity Warthe colassol strength of Disney and the seemingly non-existent “superhero fatigue,” this year’s monstrous box office numbers are projected to be out of this world. That’s a good year for the superheros, and a great year for Hollywood.
