Stranger Things Season 3 Will Be Darker Than Previous Seasons

Published

Netflix’s Stranger Things was a smash hit a few years ago and just keeps getting bigger. Last year’s season 2 was in many ways superior to the first season and added some great new characters to the mix. Season 3 began production on April 20th and is expected to be released in 2019. But what can we expect for the new season?

A Balance Of Tones That Will Gradually Get Darker

The previous seasons beautifully balanced a fun 80’s nostalgia tone with a much darker horror tone. The second season did touch on a darker subject matter than the first, but still maintained the fun. According to series producer and director Shawn Levy, season 3 will get darker still.

He said that the beginning of the season will have the balance of tones that we have all come to love. But as season 3 progresses, it will get darker and become more action-packed. This is an exciting direction for the series to go as we find out more about The Upside Down.

New Characters Will Add To The Drama And Mystery

As seen in the teaser trailer for season 3 that announced the beginning of production, there are some new faces being added to the cast. Season 2 was successful in adding new characters, such as Max and Kali. They added new life to the series, which is what we hope will happen again in season 3.

The new members added to the cast include Maya Hawkes, Cary Elwes, and Jake Busey. There are sure to be more to come as announcements are made further into filming.

A Showdown With The Mind Flayer

Season 2 of Stranger Things continued the trend of naming the monsters from The Upside Down after a Dungeons and Dragons creature. The Mind Flayer was not defeated in season 2, as the party only delayed the inevitable.

The Mind Flayer is very aware of the actions of the party and seems to be actively seeking them out. Shawn Levy mentioned that it is particularly aware of Eleven, as it has never encountered someone with her powers before. This is a fascinating set up for a new season.
