5 Strange Royal Rules Meghan Markle Has To Follow When She Marries Prince Harry

Published

Impressing the in-laws is tough, but when they’re the British Royal Family there are a few extra pressures that come with it. Just ask Prince Harry’s fiancee, Meghan Markle, who is going to have to learn all about the weird customs and rules attached to being a member of the royal family before their wedding. Here are just a few strange things the Suits actress is going to have to get to grip with.

Eyes On The Queen

As a Hollywood star, Meghan Markle is used to being the center of attention, but that’s all about to change. When it comes to the royal family, there’s only one top dog – Queen Elizabeth II. Not only can she not turn her back on the monarch at any time, Markle cannot walk ahead of her either. That’s not the only thing she will have to remember; she’s also going to have to learn to keep her mouth shut.

No Politics

Meghan Markle was outspoken about her political beliefs before she started dating Harry, but that will all have to stop when she gets married. The royals are meant to be politically impartial, so not only will she lose the right to vote, she won’t be able to voice her opinion either. It’s not just what she says that could cause Markle issues; she’s also got to worry about what she’s wearing.

Funeral Ready

The royal family has a strict dress code and one weird rule is that they when they travel they always take with them a suitable black outfit just in case someone passes away and they have to go into mourning. It might seem over the top, but it would cause a right royal scandal if they were caught out. There are certain foods that Markle will have to give up as well.

No Shellfish

Royals are banned from being served shellfish, as the dish could cause them an allergic reaction or food poisoning. Royals have full-packed schedules so they try to avoid any type of illness that may force them to cancel an event or appearance. Garlic is another banned food item at the palace, but that’s apparently because the queen can’t stand the stuff. That’s not the worse piece of news; it turns out Meghan Markle isn’t going to become a princess after all.

Not A Princess

Sorry, everyone. Marrying a British prince doesn’t automatically make you a princess. The title of “princess” is only given to blood members of the royal family like Princess Beatrice or Princess Charlotte. It’s likely that the Queen will make Harry a Duke when the couple get married, meaning the former actress’ title will become Duchess. She may also officially be referred to by her husband’s title: “Princess Harry Of Wales,” but officially she won’t be Princess Meghan.
