Girl Asked Professor to Keep Her Dog in the Class During Hurricane Irma and His Response Wowed the Crowd

The Calm Before the Storm

Prior to the landfall of Hurricane Irma, most people were busy preparing and moving out of the hurricane’s path. However, one university student, Jessica Lewis, had one more class to attend before she could avoid the storm traffic and drive herself to Atlanta, where her family lives. The only problem she faced was that she knew she had barely enough time left after class to gather her belongings, so she needed to take her dog Luna with her to class in Statesboro, Georgia.

Think Quick

The class she needed to attend was her Introduction to Political Science seminar. Lewis had everything packed up in her bag so she could head straight from university to Atlanta, but Luna, her most prized possession, was not going to be left behind. Lewis knew she had to beat the bumper-to-bumper traffic in Coastal Georgia and Florida, so there was no time left to waste. Her only solution was to take Luna with her in order not to return home. The only thing standing in her way was getting permission from her professor, so she sent him an email explaining her predicament.

She started the email by introducing herself and then got straight into the little pickle she found herself in, but not before she called the professor “cool” to suggest he would allow it because he’s so nice. She also attached several pictures of her beloved Luna to help convince her professor, Dr. Kennedy.

The Response

Her professor’s response wowed the internet. In a nutshell, Lewis wrote: “My Name is Jessica Lewis and I’m in your TR Intro to Political Science class at 3:30pm. I realized that the answer to this is probably no, but I thought that you might actually be a cool enough professor to say yes, and so I figured it was worth a shot.”

Dr Joshua Kennedy replied within minutes, “Do you think calling me “cool” would get me to say yes? Because it won’t work. What will work is that she is obviously a good girl so of course you can bring her.”

Lewis was thrilled with the positive response that she jumped for joy and ran to show her roommate what the professor wrote.

Braving Class

Luckily for Lewis, Dr. Kennedy turned out to be a passionate dog lover. She reported in an interview that her professor loved having Luna and had no complaints about the pooch whatsoever. As for Luna, she made new friends and got a pet from everyone in the class. Overall, Luna was well-behaved in spite of the fact that she hates being on a leash. It took a few moments for Luna to get used to the leash, but after she dragged Lewis to class, she calmed down. The best part is that all the students were excited to see Luna and petted her while listening to the professor and taking notes.
