If you haven’t felt the shining sun kiss your face for weeks, you’re not alone. In this worldwide quarantine party we’re all living in due to coronavirus, these celebrities are looking more down-to-Earth than we’ve ever seen them. So bust out the Ben & Jerry’s, the hours of Netflix binge-watching, and the choreographed dance routines – and see what your favorite stars really think about social distancing.
1. Jessica Alba
The Fantastic Four star has been keeping herself busy during quarantine by sharing countless TikTok videos with the crowd. For those who don’t know, TikTok is a social media platform where you can upload a video of yourself rocking out to a beat, or lip syncing to a well-known smash hit.
Jessica Alba, also known for a 2003 dance flick called Honey, showed some of her moves as she noted, “Havie was the creative director on this one.” It’s nice to see that she’s letting loose, and spending quality time with her daughter as well. In each of her posts, she mentions that she’s been staying home, encouraging others to do the same.
2. Emma Watson
Not all celebrities are using this quarantine period for fun and games. Some stars are especially concerned with the amount of people who aren’t staying home, and Emma Watson is one of them. She’s been using her popularity to proactively implore to people that they need to be taking coronavirus more seriously.
In a recent Instagram post, she spoke about her 70-year-old grandmother and her diabetic mother, maintaining that she stays home for them. The former Harry Potter actress called on the public to dig deep during this time, and to ask themselves the question: “Who are you staying home for?”
3. Ryan Reynolds
In order to increase social distancing as efficiently as possible, stars have been “nominating” each other to post influential messages to their fans. After getting nominated, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds posted a video on Instagram, saying: “We need to work together to flatten the curve, and fight off COVID-19.”
He then joked that “in times of crisis, we all know it’s the celebrities we count on most. They’re the ones who are going to get us through this.” After chuckling, he then added, “After the healthcare professionals, the first responders, ping pong players, and mannequins.” Think he might be going a bit stir-crazy at home?
4. Jenna Fischer
Dealing with a global pandemic is affecting everyone differently. In the case of Jenna Fischer (best known as Pam Beesly from NBC’s The Office), the feeling of anxiety is far from foreign. When she posted this picture of herself in quarantine enjoying some time in the sun in her backyard, she opened up to her fans.
She wrote, “This is a photo of me looking like I’m journaling and drinking coffee in my backyard. But I’m actually panic reading the news, maniacally texting my family, and freaking out about online learning that starts in a week.” Kudos to Fischer for her honesty — and on a more optimistic note, she added that there are also moments of “calm and joy,” and that she sends her love out to everyone.
5. Gal Gadot
It was about six days into Gal Gadot’s time in quarantine when she told the world she was “feeling a bit philosophical.” The Wonder Woman star followed that up with a singalong video of herself singing an a cappella version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” with countless other celebrities.
Fellow stars like Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, Mark Ruffalo, and many more contributed their own respective lines to the effort, though the result yielded some mixed reviews from the crowd. Some fans actually reacted a bit negatively to the cover, but overall the stars’ message of hope was well-received. Hey, it’s the thought that counts, right?
6. Millie Bobby Brown
It’s not just the seasoned vets who are spreading the stay-at-home mantra to the masses. Millie Bobby Brown, young star of the hit Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things, also had a few wise words to her devoted fans, with the help of some adorable visual aids: “This is the perfect time to be with our families and fluffy friends.”
Brown continued, “Let’s protect the people that hold our history. Stay safe and I’m sending my love.” It’s nice to see Brown showing her maturity and solidarity towards her elders. As far as her fluffy little friends go, they certainly beat a demogorgon!
7. Vanessa Hudgens
Some people, celebrities included, have been reluctant to admit or understand the severity of the situation. Vanessa Hudgens recently upset a slew of people when she said on a livestream, “It’s a virus, I get it. Like, I respect it. But at the same time, even if everybody gets it, people are gonna die, which is terrible — but like, inevitable?”
After receiving a hefty amount of negative feedback from this post, Hudgens retracted her statement and apologized for her words. She then maintained that it’s a “crazy, crazy time,” and that we all should be staying home and safe. She even collaborated with her former High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale in a TikTok video.
8. Ashley Tisdale
While cooped up in their respective homes, Ashley Tisdale collaborated with Vanessa Hudgens in a TikTok video to raise people’s spirits. Fittingly enough, they danced to the song “We’re All In This Together,” an optimistic smash hit from High School Musical, the popular Disney teen film that they both starred in.
In the caption Tisdale wrote, “If you need to work out while on #selfquarantine try this. Hopefully this will brighten your day a little!” Throughout her time alone, she’s been keeping herself busy through meditating, doing yoga, and reading. Tisdale also encourages everyone to take care of themselves throughout this crazy time period.
9. Kristen Bell
How amazing of a world we live in today, where a star like Kristen Bell, who usually seems jovial and upbeat, has no problem posting this super-real selfie of herself in bed. In these quarantine times, she is one of many celebrities unafraid to show herself in a less-glamorous light, and we love her for it.
A popular actress from films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Disney’s Frozen, Bell has uploaded various posts to encourage people to stay home. One picture was of a doctor holding up a sign that read, “We also have family but can’t stay home.” Another was a homemade poster that she and her kids made, which said, “We are going to flatten the curve!”
10. Alyssa Milano
When it came time for Alyssa Milano to deliver her statement about self-quarantining, she was on a mission. In a recent Instagram video she posted, the first thing she said was, “This is like the first time I put on lipstick in ten days. You’re welcome.” Milano, actress of ’80s sitcom Who’s The Boss? and ’90s fantasy series Charmed, has no problem isolating herself.
This brings us to the next part of her video, where she earnestly asked: “So my question is, why are people going out and not staying home? It’s not about you, okay? Health right now is a team sport. It’s a group effort. And we all have to do our part to keep each other healthy.” Well, in light of those statements, it seems like Samantha was the boss all along!
11. Lady Gaga
“So I talked to some doctors and scientists,” wrote Lady Gaga in a recent Instagram post. “It’s not the easiest for everyone right now but the kindest/healthiest thing we can do is self-quarantine.” The “Poker Face” singer also wrote that she wishes she could go visit her parents and grandmothers, but is refraining from it, instead hanging out with her dogs at home.
However, it was her final sign-off comment that showed how optimistic she was about this whole situation. In addition to the doctors and scientists, she had another consultation to make: “I love you world, we’ll all get through this. Trust me, I talked to God. She said we’re gonna be ok.”
12. Gwyneth Paltrow
If there’s someone who knows a thing or two about diseases and how they’re spread, it’s Gwyneth Paltrow. Given her experience of having starred in the 2011 doomsday thriller Contagion, which was about a deadly virus that took no prisoners, she certainly had some thoughts to share on the current situation.
In an Instagram post, she poetically (and alliteratively) stated: “Paranoid? Prudent? Panicked? Placid? Pandemic? Propaganda? Paltrow’s just going to go ahead and sleep with this thing on the plane. I’ve already been in this movie. Stay safe. Don’t shake hands. Wash hands frequently.” Well, if that doesn’t require a mic drop, we don’t know what does.
13. Bella Hadid
The effect of COVID-19 has made it nearly impossible for people to travel just about anywhere. Yet before conditions got too serious, supermodels like Bella Hadid were sharing mask-selfies on planes. Since then, she has properly quarantined herself like everyone else — and found some interesting ways to pass the time.
Like many other celebrities, she’s been bouncing around her home to boisterous TikTok videos, showing a goofy side that we rarely see from her. She jokingly added to her recent Instagram post, “Follow me on TikTok, if you dare.” But she was quick to request: “Also, don’t forget to wash your hands. Let’s do our part and stay inside.”
14. Emily Ratajkowski
Here’s another celebrity who’s resorted to the ever-burgeoning app TikTok as a means of trying to kill her boredom. In fact, Emily Ratajkowski announced that she would be posting “a Tik Tok a day. Stay inside please.” But the supermodel also had a much more poignant offering to the public.
Aware that thousands of people are finding it difficult to deal with these times, she shared some positive thoughts that helped her recently. Ratajkowski shared that 2019 was one of the hardest years of her life, from going through depression to dealing with her mother being ill. And yet, she added a handful of powerful resolutions she learned from it all, hoping that they may help some people right now.
15. Cardi B
Sometimes it takes a nice helping of wackiness to get creative during hours of supreme boredom. Even though Cardi B is a famous rapper, she opted not to resort to assuming herself through posting a TikTok video like so many others. In fact, she did something that most people have probably never done in their lives.
She built a massive Jenga tower, walked to the other side of her room, and catapulted herself right into it. Like we said, there’s no telling what kind of inspiration might strike if you’re locked in your own house for long enough. In the case of Cardi B, we appreciate her for thinking outside of the box.
To say that the Queen of Pop has expressed her eccentric side in the past is certainly the mother of all understatements. But for a star of her stature, it generally comes with the territory — and that didn’t stop when she quarantined herself. Madonna decided to entertain her legions of diehard fans with a newly-written rendition of her song “Vogue.”
Her fresh lyrics stated explicitly: “Come on, go. Let’s go eat some fried fish.” She posted this on Instagram with a caption saying, “Living in special times. It’s 3 am – cut me some slack, people.” Madonna, you can have all the slack you want; anything goes in quarantine-land, as long as you’re safely indoors!
It seems as if Madonna wasn’t the only singer to insert new words into her own song. JoJo, the former pop sensation whose success stemmed from her hit 2004 tune, “Leave (Get Out),” brought the old song back with a corona-twist. She hilariously changed the lyrics of the chorus to: “Stay in, right now, do it for humanity.”
This was JoJo’s way of telling certain people to be more responsible. But if they didn’t get the message, she was more than willing to spell it out for them, noting in a separate video, “Especially these freaking Florida kids who are on their spring break, I’m like y’all need to go inside!”
18. Busy Phillips
When actress Busy Phillips recently posted this photo on Instagram, she captioned it: “Just a couple of [we’ll pretend she said female dogs] in self-quarantine. Goodnight, you guys. I love you.” Phillips is known for portraying characters with a little spice to them, like Kim Kelly from Freaks and Geeks, or Laurie Keller on ABC’s Cougar Town.
But in real life she appears to be as sweet as a button, constantly posting adorable pictures of her and her daughters. Since the quarantine period started, she’s actually been playing the less-traveled sport of croquet with her kids! How’s that for shaking things up a bit?
19. Priyanka Chopra
The context of this picture is pretty heartwarming, and it reflects on something that many have said since this outbreak began. That something is the overwhelming sense of gratitude we should be feeling and expressing towards the medical professionals in the world, who’ve been laying their hearts on the line during this period.
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra stepped outside onto her porch late one afternoon to join thousands of others in a scheduled, communal clap to celebrate these heroes of medicine. Like many others, she understands that however hard it is for us to not leave our houses, it’s nothing compared to the endless hours of work that these doctors are putting in to save lives every day.
20. Evangeline Lilly
It’s been tough to come to terms with the panic the virus has caused, and several celebrities have expressed their concern and reservation about the whole situation. While Evangeline Lilly’s alter ego, Kate Austen, sure knows how to survive the toughest of situations, Lilly followed suit by deciding not to self-quarantine in the beginning of March.
However, soon after her apprehension about staying safe, Lilly decided to join the effort to flatten the curve by staying put at home. She even posted on her Instagram to offer a heartfelt apology for resisting the largescale effort. Lilly posted a picture of a board game with an apology caption to emphasize her determination to help the world overcome this difficult time.
