Sherlock Holmes Will Go West In The Third Film Installment

Published

on

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law’s roles as the infamous Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will be returning to the big screen for the third installment of their adventurous series. This time, however, things will be shaken up a bit as the daring pair find themselves in the Old West.

Former Success

Sherlock Holmes and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows were both interesting takes on the age-old story of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick. Robert Downey Jr. played a convincing Holmes and Jude Law took to the part of Dr. Watson rather swimmingly.

The first movie in this series brought home $524 million globally in 2009 as its follow up raked in $545.4 million. How will the element of the wild west affect the overall atmosphere and performance of the movie?

Some Unknowns

While Guy Ritchie directed the first two installments of the series there does not seem to be a director tied to Sherlock Holmes 3 as of right now. The script has been written, however, and producers are in place.

It will have been a whopping nine years since the last movie in the series was released. Surely fans will be excited about the brand new material that this Old West twist is sure to stir up.

Long Wait

The third installment is definitely a go. Hopefully, the story will fall in the capable hands of a good director. But, when can fans expect to see their favorite characters solve mysteries in the Old West?

Initial reports slated Sherlock Holmes 3 for a December 2020 release. Recently, however, it has been reported that the release date has been pushed back to December 21 of 2021 with production on the film set to begin in January 2020. Whatever the release date, we can be sure it will be well worth the wait.
