The Game Is Afoot! ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ Confirmed By Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.’s stint as Iron Man has propelled the Marvel Cinematic Universe into legendary status. He will forever be known as Tony Stark. But his Marvel contract will end after the upcoming untitled Avengers 4 film. But that doesn’t mean Downey will be out of the limelight for long. The actor recently confirmed he will return for the third installment of his other iconic character, Sherlock Holmes.

Not So Elementary

Robert Downey Jr.’s suave demeanor was perfect for the Sherlock Holmes films. The latest big-screen adaptation of the classic story found him solving crimes alongside Dr. John Watson, played by Jude Law.

With director Guy Ritchie at the helm, the film was destined for greatness. Even Mark Strong as the mystical villain, Lord Henry Blackwood was a perfect touch. With all of the pieces in place, it’s no surprise Sherlock Holmes made it to franchise status.

From The Iron Man Himself

The first film received critical acclaim for the story, acting, set and costume design. The sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released two years later.

While promoting Avengers: Infinity War, Downey Jr. stated the third Holmes movie already had a green light. He also spoke of a few other projects, “We’re looking at another Sherlock Holmes, we’re developing Perry Mason for HBO. I still want to do Pinocchio.”

Coming Soon

Guy Ritchie was selected to direct the live-action adaptation of Aladdin. That movie is now in post-production. Meanwhile, Jude Law will enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Captain Marvel film. Sherlock Holmes 3 sounds like it’s a bit far off. But at least it gives us something to look forward to.
