Beloved Female-Driven Book Series ‘The Wheel Of Time’ Gets Ordered By Amazon Studios

When it comes to women on the big and small screen, we’re at an astonishing time. Countless women are delivering unforgettable performances. Amazon sees this, and they’re looking to bring more talented ladies to their streaming service. One new show will certainly do the trick.

Wheel In The Sky

In association with Sony Pictures, Amazon has ordered a live-action adaptation of The Wheel of Time. Written by the late Robert Jordan, this series surrounds the battle between the Dragon and the Dark One. This specific adaptation will follow the storyline of Moiraine and her all-female squad known as Aes Sedai.

Rafe Judkins will be the showrunner. His previous work includes ChuckHemlock Grove, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As a fan of the book series, Judkins was excited to finally get to work on the show. “I couldn’t be more honored to be the one finally bringing that world to life on screen, for old fans to lose themselves in all over again and new fans to discover for the very first time,” he said in a press release.

Time Has Come Today

A TV show was in development with Sony Pictures for a couple of years before Amazon stepped in. “‘The Wheel of Time’ is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the bestselling global book franchises and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said.

At this time, no one has been cast in any roles, including the lead role of Moiraine.

Bring Me To Life

This isn’t the first book adaptation for Amazon Studios. The Man in the High Castle and Bosch are among those that aired on the service.

In the future, Amazon will deliver adaptations of The ExpatriatesDaisy Jones & The Six, and Good Omens.
