Seinfeld fans rejoice! A new attraction is opening this fall which will commemorate all things Seinfeld. “The Seinfeld Experience” will open in Gramercy Village, located in Manhattan, New York City. Open seven days a week, ticket purchasers will be able to re-live their favorite scenes on the recreated sets from Seinfeld.
The Show About Nothing Became Something
Seinfeld premiered on July 5th, 1989 on NBC. The sitcom is the brainchild of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. Set in an apartment building in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the show centers on a fictionalized version of Jerry Seinfeld and his friends. George, Elaine, and Kramer became well-known names to audiences. Seinfeld ended after nine seasons and is still a beloved piece of television history and cultural touchstone. Through syndication and streaming sites, fans are able to binge-watch the show. Warner Bros and Superfly saw the opportunity to create a new way for fans to enjoy Seinfeld.
Live Entertainment Is the New Sensation
Superfly is a live entertainment producer known for creating music and other art-related festivals and houses Clusterfest, a festival celebrating all forms of live comedy. The festival debuted in 2017 and featured Jerry Seinfeld. Clusterfest 2019 hosted a taste of “The Seinfeld Experience” and encouraged participants to “Sing your own slap bass intro while you slide like Kramer into our perfectly reconstructed Seinfeld apartment. Hang with friends on the couch, live iconic Seinfeld moments, yada yada yada!”.
“The Seinfeld Experience” will allow fans to explore the familiar scenes, interact with exhibits, and discover new content. A retail store will have one of a kind items for purchase. “We’re thrilled to bring The Seinfeld Experience to life in an innovative way, combining nostalgia with immersive entertainment, and getting fans closer than ever before to the show and its beloved characters,” Superfly co-founder Jonathan Mayers said. “A show as iconic as Seinfeld should be celebrated with an experience that truly matches its legacy and enduring influence.”
Superfly may have been inspired by Hulu when they made pop-up sites after securing the exclusive streaming rights of Seinfeld in 2015. Superfly made the announcement about “The Seinfeld Experience” right on the cusp of the 30th year anniversary of the show, promising to be an even greater experience for the fans. “As our fans celebrate the 30th anniversary of Seinfeld, we are thrilled to partner with Superfly to introduce an authentic experience that pays tribute to the sitcom’s most iconic scenes, catchphrases and characters,” said Peter van Roden, SVP of Global Themed Entertainment, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
Possible Reunion At The Exhibit
Nostalgia is a strong emotion and “The Seinfeld Experience” is looking to capitalize on it. There are rumors about a possible reunion at the location. Reunions of any kind are powerful, but even more so when there has been a long lag time.
“Because I am Seinfeld, for a long time I was the only person to actually have the Seinfeld experience. Now, these crazy Superfly people are going to make it so lots of people can interact with our silly 90’s TV show,” said Jerry Seinfeld. “All I can say is, in the general context of the world we live in, this now seems completely normal.”
Ticket prices and exact sales dates have yet to be announced. However, sales are set to begin in the coming months through February 2020. Since “The Seinfeld Experience” is going to be open seven days a week, fans will have plenty of chances to get lost in the moment and feel like they are a part of the show. From puffy shirts to the half-eaten eclair, it is sure to be a one of a kind experience.
