Secret Service Agent Hires Prostitute and Is Suspended

Published

on

The last few years have not been great for the Secret Service. There have been numerous scandals involving prostitutes and other illicit activities. Now a member of the detail that protects Vice President Mike Pence has been suspended for soliciting the services of a prostitute.

The alleged incident took place at a Maryland hotel. It was first reported by CNN. A hotel manager called police when they became suspicious of what was going on in one of their rooms. At least one source has reported seeing the agent depart the hotel. After he was arrested for solicitation, he reported the incident to his supervisors at the agency.

The Secret Service responded by issuing a statement that they are “aware of an alleged incident involving an off duty Secret Service employee.”

The agency placed the agent on administrative leave and required him to give in all equipment that had been issued to them. They have also suspended the agent’s clearance and suspended his access to area facilities.

A spokesman for the law enforcement agency said, “We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions. The Secret Service takes allegations of criminal activity very seriously.”

This is not the first scandal involving the Secret Service.

A few years ago, the agency came under fire for the actions of some agents who were protecting President Obama in Colombia in 2012. After a night of partying, the agents on that detail were found to have been drinking heavily and to have brought prostitutes back to the hotel. At least a dozen agents were kicked off the trip and sent back to the United States for misconduct. Prostitution is legal in Colombia but not allowed by Secret Service rules.

In another incident last year, two agents crashed a vehicle into the White House fence after a night of drinking. They were sent home rather than charged with anything.
