Revivals have become a huge trend in TV over the last few years. Networks are looking through their properties to see which they can bring back for a reunion season or special to drive a bit of nostalgia. NBC’s upcoming series Peacock is embracing the trend as well, bringing back a few familiar faces to support its launch.

The Fight To Save Humanity Rages On

One show making its return is Battlestar Galactica. The original series only ran for one season before being canceled in 1979. In 2003, it saw a resurgence with Sci-Fi Channel’s three-hour miniseries. The following year, the official Battlestar Galactica series debuted on Sci-Fi Channel to rave reviews. Lasting five seasons, the show is called one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time. “I would have to say that I’m probably most proud of the fact that I think we were able to answer most of the questions that we had raised over the years. And sort of to resolve most of the mysteries and sort of the grander questions of the show,” co-creator David Eick told Collider in 2009. A spinoff titled Caprica was released in 2010, but it was canceled due to poor ratings. In 2013, web series Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome was released as a television movie.

Peacock’s version of Battlestar Galactica will feature Sam Esmail as an executive producer. The New Jersey native is best known as the creator of the acclaimed series Mr. Robot. “BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because … why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all,” Esmail said on Twitter.

My Dog Ate All My Homework Last Night

Peacock will also bring back the popular ’90s teen sitcom Saved By The Bell. So far, Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) and Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater) are the only original members coming back. For this series, Zack Morris is now governor of California, and he has to solve the issue of closing schools. His solution is to send everyone to Bayside High. With so many students under one roof, calamity will ensue.

Spawning from Good Morning, Miss Bliss, Saved By The Bell exemplified school in the early ’90s. While it lasted four seasons, Saved By The Bell delivered a handful of spinoffs and TV movies. In 2009, the cast of the show reunited on an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Every Time I Turn Around

The third announced revival for the streaming service is Punky Brewster. This series will follow Brewster as a single mother of three who meets a young girl reminiscent of herself. Soleil Moon Frye will reprise her role as Brewster for the series. Cherie Johnson will also reprise their role. The show is being co-written by Steve and Jim Armogida, who co-developed Nickelodeon’s School of Rock.

The Year Of The Peacock

Aside from the revivals, Peacock will bring a slew of original programmingPsych 2: Lassie Come HomeDr. Death, and Rutherford Falls are among the newer things debuting exclusively on the service. Fan favorites such as The OfficeCheers, and Frasier will also be present. “The name Peacock pays homage to the quality content that audiences have come to expect from NBCUniversal – whether it’s culture-defining dramas from innovative creators like Sam Esmail, laugh-out-loud comedies from legends like Lorne Michaels and Mike Schur, blockbusters from Universal Pictures, or buzzy unscripted programming from the people who do it best at Bravo and E!,” Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises Bonnie Hammer said in a press release.

Peacock will debut next April with 15,000 hours of content on launch day.
