Why Exactly Is Sara Gilbert Exiting ‘The Talk’?

Published

on

In 2010, actress Sara Gilbert dove into the talk show world with The Talk. As the show’s creator, she’s found success with three Emmy wins to her name. Now, she’s walking away from what she started years ago. For Gilbert, there are numerous deciding factors for this choice.

The Missing Factor

For eight seasons, Julie Chen was one of the show’s most popular faces. In 2018, the host chose to leave the series to be with her family. Gilbert felt like it was losing a huge piece of the puzzle. “All of it, the circumstances around it, were something that none of us wanted to have happen or to find out about,” she told The New York Times. Chen was eventually replaced by Carrie Ann Inaba for season nine.

More Acting Time

As an actress, Gilbert wanted to take more roles before she decides to hang it up. “I’m having opportunities to act and I’m just feeling like I don’t know how I’m going to do it all. I was looking at the next six months and thinking, ‘There’s not time,’” she said on The Talk. Last year, Gilbert had a recurring role on CBS’ Living Biblically. In 2019, she made the jump to the internet with YouTube’s Weird City.

Continuing ‘The Conners’

Her work on The Conners takes up a majority of her time. Aside from portraying Darlene Conner-Healy, she’s an executive producer on the show. The series is a spinoff/continuation of the 2017 Roseanne revival. While Roseanne is no longer around, the show has still become a ratings hit. “It felt like people weren’t done watching the show and we didn’t want to take it away from them. We just didn’t want to end on that note. We wanted to try to preserve the legacy,” she told New York Times. The Conners will return with a second season in the 2019-2020 season.
