Batwoman, DC’s most prominent LGBTQ hero, will finally be swinging into the Arrowverse this December as part of the CW’s latest crossover event. Fans of the character are already excited after learning Orange is the New Black actress Ruby Rose was cast to be the first-ever live-action version to appear onscreen.

Rose — who identifies as gender fluid — is poised to break new ground in the role of Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, since there’s talk of having her star in her own show.

If that happens, she would be the first the first LGBT lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series.

Batwoman Pivotal In Arrowverse Crisis Storyline

Further details are still to be confirmed, but we do know Gotham City will reportedly feature in the next Arrowverse storyline with Batwoman, although it could feasibly be on a different Earth. Arrow‘s Stephen Amell commented that unlike past hero crossovers, this one will be focused more on characters than big events.

Legends had heroes join together to fight Vandal Savage. Invasion involved Supergirl traveling to Earth-1 to help stop the alien Dominators, while last year’s epic event involved everybody combining forces to fight their Nazis counterparts in Crisis on Earth-X.

Future Of Batwoman On The CW

We know comic book fans are more than ready to see Rose’s debut as Batwoman. The Supergirl  fanbase has already called for the character’s appearance as a lead character after Maggie Sawyer, Batwoman’s girlfriend (and later fiancée) in the comic books, appeared in the show.

Arrow has been teasing a tie-in with the Batman-verse for years, starting in season one of The Flash when a newspaper from 2024 featured an article about Wayne Tech merging with Queen Inc. Oliver Queen later confirmed that Batman is in the same universe as Green Arrow when he name-dropped Bruce Wayne. Although fans aren’t getting a Batman appearance on the show, breaking history for Batwoman and LGBTQ heroes has turned into a much bigger deal.
