Is Rosario Dawson Really Leaving Netflix’s Marvel Universe?

Published

on

If you follow any of Netflix’s Marvel shows, like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, or Iron Fist, you’ll notice one familiar face that pops up in all of them. Rosario Dawson has been a beloved character in all four, playing the loyal nurse Claire Temple. She serves as the voice of reason for almost every “Defender,” which is why it’s so shocking to think she’ll be leaving the Marvel universe. Who else will put these heroes in their place?!

Rumor Has It

People were first confused when Dawson was mysteriously missing from the second season of Iron Fist, even though she was sprinkled throughout its first run. Claire Temple has evolved into a huge character and she’s a thrill to watch, so fans were reasonably bummed at her absence.

Then, Dawson herself sparked mass sadness when she mentioned that season two of Luke Cage would be her last Marvel hurrah.

Baby, Please Don’t Go!

Dawson all but confirmed she would most likely to leave the franchise in May when she made some surprising comments at the London MCM Comic Con. During a panel, she claimed, “I don’t know if I’ll be back after this, to be honest, but it’s been an amazing few years.”

She went on to say that a third season of Luke Cage or an appearance in The Punisher (notably the only one she hasn’t been in) may keep her with Marvel, but she’s done so much and wants to be closer to her teenage daughter. So there is hope, albeit a tiny bit.

A Fond Farewell

If you haven’t seen the most recent season of Luke Cage, there may be spoilers ahead. In the third episode of the season, there is an amazingly intense scene between Luke and Claire that we now know has a much deeper subtext.

It was an emotional interaction between the two that Dawson had really pushed for, perhaps because she wanted a just exit from something that she was such a huge part of. It’s a real tear-jerker, and if she does indeed leave the Marvel universe for good, is something we should all watch and cherish to bid her adieu. We’ll miss you Rosario!
