‘Riverdale’ Musical Spinoff ‘Katy Keene’ Heading To The CW

Since 2017, The CW’s Riverdale has hit a home run with fans of Archie & Co. The teen drama has been earning countless awards for its sensational cast. Many fans have wondered when one specific Archie character will make their live-action debut. Fortunately, they’re hitting the small screen soon.

The Sound Of Music

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced that Katy Keene will have their own musical spinoff series. “The #Riverdale universe expands! Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life! Extra-thrilled to be doing this with my pal Michael Grassi,” he tweeted.

Grassi is known for his work on Riverdale, Supergirl, Lost Girl, and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Keene The Queen

Debuting back in 1945, Katy Keene is known as “America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions”. Aside from being seen in issues of Archie and Jughead, Keene had her own specials in Katy Keene Pin Up Parade and Katy Keene Fan Magazine. Following 1994’s Archie Meets The Punisher, the character was retired until 2005.

In 2014, pop singer Katy Perry was accused of ripping of the character’s fashion sense. “I want to go get an MRI right now and have them look inside me and make sure I’m not a comic! But what freaked me out about it is, we looked into it, and it turned out she has a sister who’s a redhead. And my sister is a redhead! And I was like, ‘Stop it!,” she told Rolling Stone.

Big Apple Dreams

The forthcoming series follows Keene and her friends in their journey to become stars in the Big Apple. Whether it’s Broadway or the music business, they’ll try to make it together.

The Katy Keene show is slated to debut in the 2019-2020 season on The CW. There’s a great chance Keene will debut in Riverdale‘s third season before her show starts.
