‘Riverdale’ Bids Farewell To Luke Perry With His Final Scene

Luke Perry

Weeks after his death, Luke Perry’s co-stars are still sharing their favorite memories of him. For Riverdale fans, they won’t be seeing him as Fred Andrews anymore. His final appearance on the show will be one to remember for a long time.

This Is Goodbye

Perry’s last episode as Fred took place during the episode somberly titled “Fear the Reaper.” The episode dealt with Archie’s feelings after the death of Randy Ronson. In the previous episode, Archie faced Randy in a victorious boxing match. Soon after his death, it was discovered that Randy used drugs before the match. Archie, however, believed he was responsible for taking his life.

Fred understood was Archie was going through and offered some words of support. “Son, from everything you’ve said, it’s clear that Randy died from those drugs. An autopsy will support that. You’re innocent,” he said. This episode drew over two million total viewers (live and DVR).

Some Touching Words From Everyone

The cast and crew of the show gave their parting words to Perry before the episode. “This week’s Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed. As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son. Wish these scenes could go on forever,” Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said on Twitter. Mark Consuelos, who joined the show during season two, also gave love towards Perry. “All the great things you’ve heard about Luke? They’re all true. That’s who he was. He was an amazingly generous, kind person. You can’t fake that. He was one of the good ones,” he told Esquire.

Fans were completely wrecked during Perry’s final scene. “This iconic character will always be in our hearts just like Luke. Thank you, Luke, for giving life to this great character. I will always be grateful. You have marked my adolescence and my life. I will always remember you with a smile and pride. Happy to have seen you act,” Twitter user sensationalfd said. Many of them hope for some closure with Fred Andrews. “I cry every single time he shows up in the show. I truly hope that you guys can make an episode that will give him the goodbye he deserves to have,” Twitter user emelyn_soares said.

Where Do They Go From Here?

When it comes to what will actually happen to Fred Andrews, no one knows just yet. As expected, recasting the character would be very uncomfortable towards fans and co-stars alike. Following his death, Aguirre-Sacasa dedicated the rest of season three to Perry. “When I was with the crew, I said, ‘It will never be the same,’ and that’s true because Luke was such a part of the show. There are still a few more episodes that have Luke in them, so we’re glad to share those. His spirit—which was so generous and wise and vivacious—we hope will infuse every episode, so in my mind, every episode for the rest of time on Riverdale will have a bit of Luke in it,” Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Tonight weeks after Perry’s death.

There’s a chance of art imitating life with Fred passing away before season four starts up. The premiere could heavily deal with the aftermath of his death. With production of season four beginning soon, The CW will announce their tough decision in the coming weeks. This won’t be the last time fans see Perry this year, though. This summer, he’s starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. For his final acting role, he’ll be portraying Lancer star, Wayne Maunder. That movie will hit theaters in North America on July 26.
