Return To Pandora, Avatar Sequels Have A Release Date

Updated

on

Avatar

Avatar was released in 2009 and smashed all box office records.  It is still the highest-grossing movie, despite Avengers: Endgame tried to take its spot.  Fans have been waiting for the sequels that were promised, after Avatar’s success.  Finally, a date has been set and fans are excited.

Avatar Takes The Audience To Pandora And The Na’ vi

The planet Pandora is being mined for minerals, to help with the energy crisis on Earth, as most of the natural resources have been depleted.  Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) has been asked to take his identical twin brother’s place, and pilot the genetically-matched hybrid Na’vi.  Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) wants Jake to find the location of the Hometree as it stands above the richest deposit of the mineral that is being mined, luring Jake with the promise of having his ability to walk restored.  Jake, while in the avatar, grows closer to the Na’ vi through Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), and is accepted as one the Na’ vi.  Upon discovering that Quaritch plans on destroying the natives, Jake leads the resistance.  At the end of the conflict, only select humans were able to stay, and Jake permanently merged into his Na’ vi form.

The other character in the movie was the planet Pandora itself.  It was a lush, breathtaking view.  The special effects helped tell the story of the planet, it’s people, and it’s spirit.  Fans wanted more.

The Unsinkable James Cameron

Avatar came from the great mind of James Cameron, as he directed, produced and co-wrote the film.  While making Avatar, he created a new way to work with 3D motion capture and manufactured the Fusion Camera System, an advanced 3D camera rig.  Cameron is known for his great stories, such as Terminator, Aliens, and Titanic, which is, after adjusting for inflation, still third highest-grossing movies of all time.  Once Avatar broke all these records and was a success, James Cameron promised there would be a sequel.  The first release date set in 2014.  The release date has been pushed back multiple times, for script issues, writing issues, actually filming the scenes appeared to be a bit of a struggle, but the last schedule change is direct because of the Disney/Fox merger.  Despite all of this Cameron has insisted there will be a sequel, actually a total of 4 sequels as there is a saga to tell.

Avatar: The Way of the Water Is Scheduled For Release December 2021

James Cameron has been pretty tight-lipped about the plot of the film, but there have been some confirmations.  In this next film, audiences will be introduced to a new tribe of the Na’vi, and get to see Pandora’s Ocean.  The entire cast has returned, even Sigourney Weaver, who will have a new role, and Stephen Lang reprising his role.  New actors have joined to be apart of the planet; Kate Winslet, Edie Falco and Brendan Cowell roles have been named, but Vin Diesel and David Thewlis are listed as part of the cast, but nothing else has been revealed.  Matt Smith, of Dr. Who, has been rumored to have a role, but at this time there is no real confirmation. There will probably be more reveals as the date gets closer, or even trailers, but patience is a virtue that not all have.

After 10 years In The Making, Fans Are Counting Down To December.

December 2021 is two years away, and while many would love for their beloved films to be released as quickly as possible, Avatar is taking some time. Knowing how meticulous James Cameron is to details, and ensuring there is a great story to be shared, the wait will be worth it.
