This rescue dog from Southampton, England proved he is man’s best friend when he helped wake his owner out of a coma.

Andy Szasz, a civil engineer from Southampton, developed pneumonia last year. As of a result of this, he was placed in a medically-induced coma. His wife, Estelle, knew how close Andy was with their dog, Teddy. So, she sought special permission for the four-year-old pup to visit her husband in the intensive care unit.

This wasn’t the first time Teddy was by his owner’s side in trying times. Before his coma, Andy overcame bowel cancer. Teddy was by his side the entire time.

After being treated for pneumonia, doctors expected Andy to wake up within the week. But in the hospital room, Teddy started barking like crazy. The dog’s bark is being credited with bringing him around three days early. Good boy!

“Ted is such a remarkable little dog in many ways,” Andy said. “He’s clever, loving, loyal, funny and a right little character! He really stole my heart when we first met five years ago. I always tell people I rescued Ted and Ted rescued me. We certainly do have a special bond.”

The U.K.’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) heard about what Teddy did for his owner, and decided to give him their Animal Award at a recent ceremony. Andy and Estelle had previously adopted the Schnauzer-Poodle mix from the Stubbington Ark RSPCA animal shelter in Hampshire.

“I was so proud of him at the Awards ceremony,” Teddy’s owner said. “He behaved so well and wasn’t fazed by anything. I think Ted and I got to meet every single person there and he high-fived most of them as well!”

Andy also thanked the RSPCA for helping to bring Teddy into his life.

“Teddy is a brilliant example of the intense bond between dog and man,” Michael Ward said on behalf of the RSPCA. “The connection between the two of them is so strong, that even in a coma, Andy responded to Teddy. It just shows how rewarding – and life changing – giving a home to a rescue animal can be.”

Neverland Ranch is Back On The Market: Take A Look Around the Amusement Park

Situated in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Monica, California, the almost 3,000 acre plot of land upon which Neverland Ranch was constructed has recently been placed back on the market. Nowadays, the one-time residence of international pop sensation Michael Jackson is going by a new name: Sycamore Valley Ranch. Much of the estate is as it was during the 15 years Jackson called it his home, except for a few glaring differences – namely, the removal of the fun-fair rides that gave the home its whimsical name Neverland Ranch. The very last vestiges of where the carousel once spun are still visible as you go through the grounds. Read on for an in-depth view of the ranch.
