Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’ Already Being Called A Masterpiece

Published

on

Steven Spielberg has been responsible for some of the most iconic movies in cinema history, from Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind to the revolutionary digital art in Jurassic Park. His latest film Ready Player One is already being heralded as a modern-day triumph.

Ready, Player One?

Since the film’s earliest announcement, critics claimed Ready Player One would be little more than pandering to the nostalgia-sensitive crowd. However, after an initial screening at SXSW, those worries are quickly being put to rest.

Viewers of the screening describe a film that honorably features odes to both movie fanatics and pop culture geeks. Critics have described the movie as “pure pop escapism” and a “supremely entertaining crowd-pleaser.”

Screening At SXSW

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez was in attendance. His tweet following the screening says it all, “Ready Player One is classic Spielberg fun! What a blast, can’t wait to see it again. Rewards repeat viewings. Tons of great references, visuals, and heart. So kick a** it blew the speakers!”

At the film’s conclusion, critics and journalists gave Spielberg a rare standing ovation. Viewers appeared to be completely engrossed in the references and 80s soundtrack throughout the duration of the picture.

The Synopsis

Ready Player One takes place in 2045 where a virtual world called OASIS allows people to go anywhere or do anything. The creator of OASIS offers his creation as a prize to whoever wins a Willie Wonka-esque competition. We follow an unlikely hero and his friends known as the High Five as they race for survival for themselves and the world.

The epic science-fiction fantasy was adapted from an Ernest Cline novel. The film stars Tye Sheridan, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, Olivia Cooke, and Hannah John-Kamen. The groundbreaking film will be released nationwide on March 29, 2018.
