5 Major Plot Questions We Still Have About Gilmore Girl’s Luke/Lorelai Ship

Published

on

When you think of television show couples, you recall Ross and Rachel (Friends) or Jim and Pam (The Office). But Gilmore Girls has its own iconic relationship and we’re not talking about Lorelai and Rory. Instead, it’s Luke and Lorelai. But there are five major plot questions about their relationship we need to discuss.

Luke Had To Side With Lorelai, No Matter What

Even before Luke and Lorelai were in a relationship, he was siding with her in arguments. In the show’s second season, Luke’s troublesome nephew, Jess Mariano, arrives in Stars Hollow. This brings nothing but conflict, especially in the episode “Teach Me Tonight.” When Jess and Rory get in a car accident, Lorelai places all blame on Jess. She expects Luke to side with her, even though his nephew was also involved in the accident.

Their Opposite Tastes In Pop Culture

Luke and Lorelai have chemistry, but they have opposite tastes in pop culture. It’s confusing that these two characters disagree on movies, music, television shows, and more. If opposites attract, Luke and Lorelai are the embodiment of these relationships. We hope they can agree on something when it’s Gilmore movie night.

Lorelai Postpones The Wedding Without Expressing Her Feelings

Lorelai Gilmore is an energetic, flamboyant woman. She isn’t afraid to express her feelings to anyone and everyone in Stars Hollow. However, in the series’ sixth season, she agrees to postpone her wedding with Luke, bottling up her feelings in an unhealthy manner. This doesn’t sound like the Lorelai Gilmore we know and love.

Luke Hides Important News

The series’ sixth season brought emotional changes, including when Luke learns he has a daughter he never knew about from a previous relationship. Instead of sharing the news with Lorelai, he keeps it a secret. When she finally discovers the truth, instead of being the lovable Luke we know, the couple has an intense fight. What was Luke thinking?

Luke Doesn’t Let Lorelai Have A Relationship With His Daughter

Luke was always a fatherly figure to Rory. But when it was time for Lorelai to be involved in April’s life, Luke shuts her down completely, refusing to allow any communication. This is the opposite of the relationship Luke has with Rory. If Lorelai was supposed to be Luke’s fiancé, shouldn’t she have been allowed to know April, too?

When Real-Life Plays A Part In TV Plotlines

Not every show has its plot lined out from the moment the pilot airs, and still, sometimes real-life can get in the way. Even the best laid plans can go awry, and sometimes plotlines are created entirely to accommodate an actor’s unexpected personal issue. From pregnancies to off-set injuries (and of course plenty of on-set injuries), writers are reworking scripts so that you’d never know something else was happening behind the scenes. Think you know why an actor exited a show? We’ll bet you didn’t even realize that some major show plots happened out of serendipity. Read on to find out how in some cases, the truth really is stranger than fiction.
