Professor Brings Single-Mother Student to Tears With Awesome Gesture

Published

on

University of Tennessee Professor Sally Hunter found a way to help one of her students, who is also a single mother, who missed her class due to childcare issues. Morgan King, who has a three-month-old baby girl named Korbyn, missed  class because she couldn’t find a babysitter.

Reports from Fox8 says, Prof. Hunter offered help by taking the baby to class and is “very serious with this offer – just bring Korbyn with you!” The professor proposed to hold King’s daughter in class while she listens to her lectures.

King posted a picture of the email on her Twitter page saying, “ I’m literally crying. So blessed/thankful.” Her post was shared many times on social media which brought out comments from those faced with a similar situation and the public in general.

Prof. Hunter also mentioned in her email, which King posted on her Twitter page, that she works for “the Department of Child and Family Studies – so how terrible would it be if I was unwilling to have a child visit our class?”

The simple gesture from the faculty member elicited great reactions from netizens including one Tweet from another mom saying “Morgan, thanks for showing us challenges college students face. Prof. Hunter, thanks for being part of the solution.”

In today’s world where most women juggle many things, including finishing their studies and caring for their families, it is normal to miss a class for the sake of their children.

Prof. Hunter’s initiative to help a student just goes to show that there are still people willing to help others find a simple solution their problem. And there are ways to handle most of life struggles with the help of others.

Aside from offering help to King, Prof. Hunter also “considered (King) excused” for the class she missed and instructed her how to access resources she failed to accomplish during that day.
