First Photos of Netflix’s ‘Sabrina’ Definitely Stick To The Dark Original Comic

Published

on

Netflix is developing another version of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and it’s absolutely nothing like what viewers have seen on TV before. From the looks of the first pictures, it’s not going to be the peppy teen show of the past. In fact, it’s a pretty dark drama! Catch a glimpse of what is to come.

The Friendly Version

When most people think of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, their mind might automatically turn to Melissa Joan Hart. The character was learning how to use her powers while navigating high school. There was also an animated version, Sabrina: The Animated Series, which kept things fun and lighthearted. Netflix’s version? Not at all friendly.

A Scary Twist

Netflix’s description of the upcoming Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Keirnan Shipka, highlights just how gloomy this remake will be. “Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature–half-witch, half-mortal–while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit,” the plot description read.

A Rough Battle Ahead

Sabrina certainly is still trying to balance her powers with high school, but she has a big fight ahead of her. While trying to be a normal teen, Sabrina is being hunted by the demonic Madam Satan and the Church of Night’s high priest Father Blackwood. And, while this version seems a little doom and gloom, it actually sticks to the original comic series.

A Graphic Throwback

Netflix’s remake is centered around the original comic book series of the same title. Set in the ’60s, the comics were more horrific and demonic than most comics. It dived deeply into the occult and witchcraft, creating a scary but intriguing page-turner that is now coming to TV.

Another Season In The Works

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s 10-episode season is set to air on Netflix just in time for the Halloween season. Interestingly, the show has already been renewed for a second season before the premiere. Netflix is clearly anticipating a successful start for this reboot. Viewers will get to see what’s ahead for Sabrina on October 26.
