The Outside World These Men and Women Lifted the Unthinkable Published 6 months ago on Aug 12, 2018 By Michael Berdy We all think we’re hotshots and we like to show off to our friends once in a while, but well we know that there’s a whole category of men and women out there who’ve got us beat so bad it’s unfair. They’ve lifted things with one arm that are heavier than anything we could ever grab. Now more than ever, strongmen and strongwomen continue to make our jaws drop and eyeballs pop, as they throw some of the most massive objects into the air like they were toys, and leave us wondering how such creatures are mere mortals. For some tremendous heavy lifters, read on. 1. Role Reversal Wait — you’re doing it wrong! Don’t try explaining to this guy that horseback riding is usually meant to be done the opposite way. As it turns out, the fact that he’s casually lifted a horse is not by chance. It’s a personal hobby of his. youtube.com Ukrainian strongman Dmytro Khaladzhi has made a name for himself by hoisting up horses onto his massive shoulders. He’s even done the game show circuit with his incredible talent. The horses have their legs bound first, in order to minimize the risks of getting a powerful kick. 2. Boy Wonder What sort of things does the average middle schooler enjoy doing in his or her spare time? These days, it’s hard for anyone to amuse themselves without electronic devices. But apparently, in Britain eighty years ago, the pastimes a fourteen-year-old might have were quite different. Fox Photos/Getty Images Bobby socks and all, that’s fourteen-year-old Charles Highfield from Coventry, who hasn’t even switched into his gym clothes to pull off this amazing stunt. Called “Boy Samson”, he claimed to be the strongest kid in all of England. It certainly looks like he’s not exaggerating with that claim! 3. Where’s The Leak, Ma’am? There’s plenty of real-life stories out there about men, women, and children who had sudden adrenaline-fueled bursts of strength and lifted vehicles to help people trapped underneath them. But this strongman is hoisting this semi like it’s no big deal. GiveMeSport Professional strongman Braun Strowman can’t lift the truck over his head, but that’s perfectly fine; we’d all be terribly worried for his safety if he could! Just flipping this huge vehicle over on its side is impressive enough to make us question who we’d rather tangle with: Braun, or the Incredible Hulk? 4. Airborne Quartet Ever feeling in need of a great ab workout? Say no more, Edward Reece has got you covered. He not only has enough strength to have these four ladies stand on top of him, but he can keep himself suspended in midair. Underwood Archives/Getty Images Those wooden chairs don’t look particularly sturdy, and it appears poor Edward is holding onto their bars for dear life. Let’s hope they didn’t snap. At least the girls standing on him don’t seem the slightest bit concerned — for his welfare or their own! 5. The Mountain When talking about the extreme things people have lifted, it would be impossible to not talk about Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. For starters, Game of Thrones fans would be in an outrage, but moreover, this TV star actually holds the current title of World’s Strongest Man. So what has he lifted? steemit.com ‘The Mountain’ actor didn’t gain his professional title just for being a huge guy. Among his accomplishments, he’s set the world record by lifting tires — 1,041 pounds worth of them. It truly makes one wonder what they’re feeding their kids in Iceland. Think that’s impressive? These next strongmen and strongwomen have lifted some absolutely mind-boggling items. 6. Wagon Wheel There’s a reason why Paul Anderson is smiling here. Never mind how heavy those giant wagon wheels are that he’s calmly balancing across his ham-sized shoulders. He’s capable of something much more shocking — so much so, that he beat a world record. yandex.com Though there’s unfortunately no picture of it, Paul Anderson lifted something big enough to land him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records that’s practically unchallenged. Anderson lifted the greatest weight ever, at 6,270 pounds. How on Earth is that possible? 7. Not Flying, But Close So he can’t soar through the breeze like Dumbo, but this baby elephant looks quite satisfied with where he’s at right now. Regardless, his not-so-little toes are bound together in case he gets a little over-excited and clobbers this strongman. Pinterest Could you lift a baby elephant? You would have to do some serious training for your shoulders and upper body strength, but it’s not impossible — just try and do it while they’re still very young. Baby elephants can weigh 200 pounds already at birth. 8. Carrying The Family Could you lift your own father? Perhaps, but how about at age seven? Enter Ukrainian wonder child, Varya Akulova. Look at her face: she’s barely even breaking a sweat, or it doesn’t look like she’s straining at all, despite the load she’s carrying. Diply Little Varya’s parents were circus performers, and already from a very young age they sought to involve her as much as possible in learning impressive stunts. No matter how muscular her father may be, he’s simply no match for her. There’s a Yakov Smirnoff joke in here somewhere. 9. Old Ironsides Can you imagine having this brawny gentleman for a grandfather? You certainly wouldn’t want to get on his bad side, and you’d even be afraid to ask him for presents at the holidays. What’s even more incredible, the man in this picture is a soldier. Fox Photos/Getty Images During World War II, in the face of the threat of German invasion, hundreds of thousands of men too old for regular military service volunteered to defend Britain at home. Though they were often made fun of, this is one grandpa you wouldn’t want to mess with. 10. Not Too Tired This is no ordinary high school student. At the tender age of seventeen, Michael Cruz entered a local strength competition in South Florida, and impressed everyone with this incredible lift. In the contest, he had to flip this massive truck tire over as fast as possible. My Sons Moving & Storage of West Palm Beach To everyone’s surprise, he was able to flip the tire over in just 52 seconds. All this, while his chief competitors weighed at least twenty pounds more than him. If you’re in the area and moving house, it looks like this is the kid to call. Think that’s easy? Wait till you see the next unreal heavy lifters! 11. Old-Fashioned Flirting Gentlemen, take note for the next time you’re trying to be coy with somebody at the bar: this is a decidedly better scheme for how to pick up ladies. If you can manage to impress her with this feat, it’s a surefire way to know you’re a keeper. Pinterest All kidding aside, there’s several details in this photo that make it exceptionally worrying. Upon inspection, that pole looks dangerously thin, and looks quite ready to snap in two. What’s more, the lady on the left seems like she has better places she’d much rather be! 12. Rock And Roll Queen Ever wondered who the strongest woman in the world is? Look no further: her name is Donna Moore, and she’s got a grip of steel. Seeing her lift a stone might look easier than barbels, but this is an extraordinary feat of strength. Barbend The stone that Donna has got her arms around weighs more than 300 pounds. Even if you have trained hard enough to be able to deadlift something that bulky, the biggest challenge is the fact that this stone has no handles on it. 13. Tough Cookie Think you’re hot stuff? Do you consider yourself in good enough shape that you can lift up 135-pound barbels? You might be nodding your head, but Edith Traina has still got you beat. She’s still doing some fearsome reps — and wowing audiences at age 97! Tampa Bay Times If there’s anyone out there to convince you to get back into shape, or to do a few extra reps at the gym, Edith is surely the one. She’s not just a grandmother; at her age, she’s lived to be a great-grandmother. It’s rare that something is this exhilarating to watch. 14. Feet Of Strength The first conclusion that can be drawn from this wild snapshot is that this guy certainly didn’t skip Leg Day. And you thought being able to pick up a pencil and write with your toes was impressive. But why stop there? anobanini.com This is just a casual workout for Iranian strongman Khalil Oghab. But merely accomplishing this act doesn’t only require superhuman leg strength, it also demands an amazing sense of balance as he raises this weighted pole on the flat of his feet. 15. International Log Song The Austrian Oak is not just an excellent nickname for the world-famous bodybuilder star Arnold Schwarzenegger — it’s also a mammoth-sized, hand-crafted log. To impress the crowds, competitors have to be able to thrust this behemoth into the air and above their heads. Local Sunderland This wooden monster weighs something in the way of 440 to 460 pounds. Pictured here is one of the greatest strongmen in the world, Žydrūnas Savickas from Lithuania. He smoked the competition and lifted the Austrian Oak not once, but four times. 16. Not Your Average Picnic These six faces out on a sunny afternoon in their backyard are simply no match for legendary German strongman Hermann Görner. Notice that he’s not only balancing all of these people, but they’re already on top of a giant dumbbell. Pinterest He doesn’t even have the stability of standing on his two feet to ground him and help him hoist them up. But this exercise is nothing compared to one of the famous routines that Görner was known for in his day: wrestling with an adult elephant. 17. War Hero He may be clowning around here with a bunch of buddies for the cameras, but offscreen, Joe Rollino’s strength was no joke. He was a force to be reckoned with. When World War II came around, this Brooklynite was sent to the battlefield, where his powers came in handy. brooklyndaily.com As a result of his heroism, Joe received three Purple Hearts, and many medals. The reason? Joe saw his comrades getting wounded on the battlefield. He didn’t rescue them one by one: he grabbed two under each arm, and scurried to safety with them, multiple times! 18. Heroine Have you ever tried moving houses and taking the family piano with? It’s notoriously one of the most difficult items to carry. And this strongwoman looks like she’s doing it almost effortlessly, and with the utmost precision. She’s keeping her back unbelievably straight. Pinterest This old school Wonder Woman looks extremely focused in her work. Her arms aren’t abnormally swollen and buff like other bodybuilders, so it would appear her core strength is her secret weapon. You might want to stretch before attempting this one. 19. Beefy And Brawny Well, that’s certainly one way to reel in and transport your herd of cattle. Farmhands, have you ever tried this move before and lifted a cow? With such a squirmy challenge to tackle, it’s not as easy as this man is making it look. upost.info Aside from how bizarrely comical this sight is to behold, the funniest part of this wacky picture is not the way he’s got that big lumbering beast trussed up and slung over his shoulders. He looks more concerned with the fact that the sun is shining in his eyes! 20. Strong And Fabulous These gents are right to look a tad nervous. The woman who has lifted them on her shoulders, Katie Sandwina, was world-famous as one of the strongest ladies of her time. Not only has she accomplished this impressive feat, she’s dressed for the occasion. crazybulkwomen.com It’s not enough that she’s able to lift hundreds of pounds with a sweet smile. She has to stay glamorous as she does it, so she’s added the nice touch of a feather and even heels. It’s like seeing the grandmother of the WWE. She’s truly a goddess, but wait until you get a gander at these man and women up ahead. 21. Wrong Direction Few things could be more aggravating than rounding a corner in your car only to discover a sign in the way saying that your usual route home is blocked because the road is being repaired. This guy figured, if it has to happen, why not have some fun with it? Fox Photos/Getty Images Most construction workers would simply lug the iron sign over to its position by hand, perhaps using two. But this blacksmith, aptly named Joe Smith, decided that wasn’t good enough. He had to give it a touch of his own flair. 22. Boys Just Wanna Have Fun This British Army soldier feels so confident about his mate who’s lifted him like a ragdoll, that he’s even brought a banjo along to strum a tune as he catches some serious air. Would you have been able to keep your cool like that? Fox Photos/Getty Images The guy accomplishing this one-armed marvel was serving in the Royal Horse Guards, and apparently had the strength to match his steeds. One thing’s for sure: you would not want to have to face this brawny lad on the battlefield. 23. Just Some Curls The way that Eugen Sandow has calmly lifted this enormous barbell over his head would make you think they’re mere balloons filled with helium. The way he’s grasping that weight in his other hand looks like he’s wielding a royal scepter. He knows who’s boss. Daily Express Eugen Sandow was no ordinary strongman. He’s credited with being the first bodybuilder in modern times, because his act became less and less about what crazy objects he could lift, and more about him just standing around flexing. He even became friends with King George V of England. 24. The Shirt Says It All No, this is not an Amy Schumer lookalike, but she is formidable in her own right. Those guns are so huge, she probably needs a permit to carry them. She looks like a Greek warrior, ready to march into Troy. qonline.com It’s thanks to incredible women like this one that audiences the world over are breaking out of their preconceived notion that weightlifting and strength competition are a male arena. Could you lift something that heavy with one arm alone? Her determination makes us want to hit the gym. 25. Look Ma, No Hands! Ladies and gentlemen, unless you feel like becoming best friends with your dentist, do yourselves a favor and refrain from trying this one at home. It certainly isn’t the heaviest thing someone has hoisted above their head, but just look at this unbelievable feat. Metro This gentleman with his muscular jaw is but one of many jawdropping acts of weightlifting performed every year at the Kila Raipur Festival in India, where men and women from across the country come to show off their wild talents. Continue reading to discover more incredible things that people have lifted! 26. Mother Lifts Best It’s the astonishing photo that took the Internet by storm. This young mother in India has learned how to be talented at multitasking out of pure necessity. But when you think of the physics of this, it really hits you hard. Daily Mail It’s like she’s playing upside-down Jenga on her head, but obviously, she isn’t fooling around — she wouldn’t be in this situation if she didn’t have to work. Even if those bricks aren’t the heaviest, her poise and balance is downright shocking. 27. Parking Lot Prowess This picture is just so totally satisfying to behold. For real, how many times have you been cruising on down the bike lane, come across some bozo who’s left their car in your path, and wanted to do something exactly like this? YouTube It’s good to have strong friends around for situations like this. Not only will you be able to continue about your daily routine, but you’ll help teach wayward drivers some roadside manners. Just because it’s convenient doesn’t mean it’s a valid parking spot! 28. Famous Grandma Pictures alone cannot explain just how mighty this grandma is. She does far, far more than just dote on her grandkids. Sakinat Hanapieva was well into her late seventies when the Guinness Book of World Records took notice of her mind-blowing abilities. ria.ru In a remote village in the faraway corner of Russia called Dagestan, there lives an old lady who can tear thousand-page telephone directories in half. This heavy metal rod that she’s lifted in the air? She can bend that into a pretzel. You go, grandma! 29. Lifting And Uplifting First things first: few of us out there would be able to lift these enormous barbells into the air, let alone agree to lie underneath them. So what makes this inspiring weight-lifter jut out from all the rest? He’s a wheelchair-bound paraplegic. Iran Sports Press Even though his legs are paralyzed, Iranian strongman Siamand Rahman made sure he used the rest of his body, and lifted to the best of his abilities. He is not only a medal-winner, but he holds several world records. He’s capable of bench pressing almost 700 pounds! 30. Where’s Shrek? For many strongmen and strongwomen, few things please their crowds more than tossing large animals up on their shoulders. But an important safety precaution they often take is binding their legs. Not so with this Goliath and his decidedly startled donkey. imgur.com For world-renowned champion strongman Khalil Oghab, cradling this donkey was a piece of cake. By his own claims, he boasted that he picked up two elephants every day — for five years. Needless to say, this is not the weight-training program that CrossFit had in mind. Enjoyed this article?
