Ticket To Ride: Emotions Surface During Paul McCartney’s Stint On ‘Carpool Karaoke’

Since 2015, Carpool Karaoke has delivered some memorable moments on The Late Late Show with James Corden. A recent installment of the segment brought an emotional moment for Corden.

I Want To Hold Your Hand

Paul McCartney was the most recent star to be a part of Carpool Karaoke, and Corden was simply in awe. Differently from how the segment is usually shot, the two decided to take a nice stroll through Liverpool, which is where McCartney spent his childhood. Things were going fine until the pair decided to go through the Beatles classic, “Let It Be.”

During the song, Corden broke down in tears.

All You Need Is Love

Corden’s grandfather introduced him to The Beatles when he was just a kid. “Let It Be” was one of the first songs he heard from the iconic musical group. “If my granddad was here right now, he’d get an absolute kick out of this,” he told McCartney.

McCartney made the moment even more emotional by calmly responding, “He is.”

Let It Be

Towards the end of the segment, the two decided to surprise a pub in the area with a karaoke performance. Corden played bartender for a moment before asking a customer to pick a song on the jukebox. Seconds later, McCartney showed up with a live band to surprise everyone with performances of “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” “Love Me Do,” and “Back In The U.S.S.R.” McCartney closed things with “Hey Jude” featuring guest vocals from Corden.

During the segment, Corden told McCartney how much his music is crucial for what’s happening in the world right now. “Your music is so full of positivity and joy and a message of love and togetherness. I feel like it’s more relevant now today maybe than it’s ever been,” he said.
