This Is Why Oscar Isaac Called Filming X-Men: Apocalypse “Excruciating”

Published

on

Recently Oscar Isaac harkened back to his experience playing the villain in X-Men: Apocalypse. Isaac spoke unfavorably of the experience, even going so far as to call it “excrutiating.” So why does Isaacs look back on the role this negatively?

Sit Down

Isaac’s distaste for the X-Men filming process came to light when he was interviewed by GQ about some of his most notable roles. Isaac discussed everything from his folk musician role in Inside Llewyn Davis to his artificial intelligence creator role in Ex Machina.

The interview was interesting in many ways but one aspect of it has been particularly taken note of. That aspect is Isaac’s role as the villain in X-Men: Apocalypse.

A Tough Set Up

Isaac spoke of the X-Men role as “Excruciating,” saying, “I didn’t know when I said ‘yes’ that that was what was going to be happening. That I was going to be encased in glue, and latex and in a 40-pound suit; that I had to wear a cooling mechanism at all times.  I couldn’t really move my head, ever.”

In short, Isaac was extremely uncomfortable when filming the mutant flick.

Tough Crowd

X-Men: Apocalypse had some success at the box office. Many critics were not big fans, however, citing a number of issues —  including Isaac’s character and his lack of personality as a villain. Surely this coupled with a bad filming experience was a bit hard to digest for Isaac and most likely did not leave the best of memories in the star’s mind.

Film Inquiry

Oscar Isaac is a fantastic actor. The films he discussed with GQ are a testament to that and it is a shame that he had such a sour experience filming X-MenNevertheless, there is plenty of Isaac’s work to marvel at and we can’t wait to see what is coming up next from this multi-faceted star. How many films with Isaac have you seen? Do you prefer his role in Star Wars or his part in Annihilation? We think they’re all pretty great.
