Oscar Isaac Heading For The ‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie?

Published

on

Over the years, Golden Globe-nominated actor Oscar Isaac has been a part of some major franchises. He’s taken to space in Star Wars and tried to overthrow mutants in X-Men: Apocalypse. Now, he’s looking to be a part of a successful video game franchise.

Shift Into Metal Gear

Isaac spoke with video game website IGN to promote his new Netflix film Triple Frontier. During the talk, he was asked about what possible video game movie he’d want to star in. Without hesitation, he namedropped Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid, that’s the one. I’m throwing my hat in for that one,” he said.

To The Big Screen

Metal Gear Solid, which is the fourth game in the Metal Gear series, became an instant classic. The 1998 game helped rejuvenate the then dwindling video game franchise. Following numerous sequels, the Metal Gear franchise has sold over 30 million units worldwide.

Since 2006, a film based on the game has been in development. In 2015, it was revealed that director Jordan Vogt-Roberts was attached to the film. Vogt-Roberts assured that this film adaptation will make fans proud. “This is a new frontier not only for me as a filmmaker but I just feel like for audiences. To me, it’s a way to make the first great video game movie where it doesn’t matter that it’s based on a video game,” he told Collider. Vogt-Roberts is best known for directing Kong: Skull Island, which earned $566 million.

Your Move, Oscar

Isaac understands the hate that video game films received over the years. “With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game. I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots,” he told IGN.

Upon hearing news of Isaac wanting in on the MGS film, Vogt-Roberts is all for it. “The ball’s in Oscar’s court,” he tweeted.
