Everything You Need To Know About Orson Welles’ Lost Film

Published

on

Orson Welles was one of the most successful dramatic actors of the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s. He starred in and directed Citizen Kane, widely considered as the greatest film ever made. Welles died in 1985, but he still inspires current dramatic actors. But, now fans have a new opportunity to watch Welles’ final film, and it’s all thanks to Netflix.

His Final Picture

Filmed towards the end of his life, The Other Side of the Wind is a mockumentary directed by Welles. The film details the transition from Classic Hollywood to the avant-garde filmmakers of New Hollywood in the 1970s.

The film stars John Huston, Bob Random, Peter Bogdanovich, Susan Strasberg, and Oja Kodar. But the project was left abandoned when Welles passed away.

It’s Finally Being Released

There were many discussions (and fights) about who owns the copyrights of the film. But that wasn’t even the hard part. Directors had to piece together the footage Welles left behind, but it was a worthwhile process to work on a film directed by one of the most influential actors and directors of all time.

Thanks to Netflix, The Other Side of the Wind had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018. It is scheduled to be released by Netflix and in select theaters on November 2, 2018.

Finally, We Have A Trailer

Netflix always delivers promising trailers to entice fans. That’s no different with the recent trailer release of Welles’ upcoming film. Watch the trailer below and get excited!

The film will attract fans of Welles, but also hopefully new fans who want to learn more about the transitional phase in Hollywood in the 1970s. No matter what, the film is likely to make history for being discovered after all these years. Orson Welles is back and we’re happy to see him. Who knows? He might even be nominated for an Oscar. Wouldn’t that be a historical event?
